Type 2
Hello all, I am newly diagnosed with type 2. Dr put me on Metformin straight away and no side affects so far except my long-sight has improved (overnight!) but my short sight is blurrier. Looking at this forum, some people have mentioned this can be experienced and should settle down in a while. I was also diagnosed with PBC (an auto-immune disorder affecting the liver) at the same time so it's been an emotional rollercoaster these past couple of weeks. Anyway I'm glad to have found this forum and hope to get to knew some of you at least!🙂

Hi @Betty Brill and welcome! Glad to hear you're selling in well with the Metformin thus far - it is known to cause gastric side effects! How did your diagnosis come about?

Hi @Betty Brill, welcome to the forum.

Yes, your symptoms should settle down once your blood sugar levels are in check. It sounds as though you've got a lot on your plate so I'm glad you've found the site useful.

Do let us know if you have any questions or if there's anything we can help with.

Hi @Betty Brill and welcome to the forum.

It is interesting that you have already been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition.
T1 Diabetes is another autoimmune disease, so it will be worth keeping an eye on your symptoms and your weight. If you start to lose weight rapidly get back in touch with your GP. I lost 1.5 stone when diagnosed at 53 with T1.

Have a good read around the forum and do come back with any questions that you have. There is plenty of experience to draw on and no questions are considered silly. Just ask.

I was thinking just the same @SB2015

No reason to think your Dr has got you mis-classified, but some new arrivals on the forum later discover that their T2 diagnosis was made largely on the basis of age, and they actually have an autoimmune type of diabetes. And auto-immune conditions do sometimes come in multiples.

Welcome to the forum @Betty Brill 🙂

Thanks for the welcome eveyone. My initial symptoms were losing weight (everyone else was gaining it during lockdown, and I was like... 'hang on, what's going on here?') and dry eyes/mouth. My doctor ran blood tests and that's how Type 2 and the auto immune condition were diagnosed. I'm suppost to see a consultant about the liver thing, but got a letter saying no appointments are currently available, so...

Thankfully, I feel pretty healthy right now. I'm trying to stick to a good diet and am mindful about what I eat. I've also started exercising more, so all good. (my eyes/mouth are definitely not as dry already, which is a relief!)

I do miss chips though.

Hope the appointment with the consultant comes through without too much delay Betty.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! Good to hear you are feeling well.
