Welcome to the forum @Juststephen23

Different people find different approaches to food work for them, both in terms of BG levels and also weight loss.

So you may have to try different approaches, like the one suggested by your nurse (low calorie / low fat) and also low-moderate carb with higher ‘good fats’ and see which one suits you best, and is most sustainable in the long run.

But do keep an eye on total carbohydrates in whichever options you try, as these will be the part of your diet that have the biggest impact on your BG levels. You have to find the amount and types of carbohydrates that suit you and your body to give you the BG numbers that keep you healthy.

Sorry to hear you are newly diagnosed with type 2 @Juststephen23

Understandably you are looking for information on how to best manage it, including what to eat. Lots of people have already provided you with some helpful information and links. Its also worth mentioning that you can get in touch with the Helpline to talk things through and discuss your diet. Lots of people find talking things through can help when they are feeling overwhelmed. You can see how to contact the Helpline here:

You also mentioned in one of your posts that you are looking to start walking which is great. For this reason you might be interested in a new Diabetes UK programme called 'Live Well, Move More' which aims to support people living with diabetes to be more active. You can find out more information here:

You can also send me a private message if you have any questions.
