Type 2
Hi there all im not a newbie to Diabetes type 2 but am on here,

iv had type 2 for about 18month and thought i was on top of it, .My Hbc1a was around 48/50 for along time . Then about 6 months ago it shot up to 90 ,I thought ok i can do this.. worked hard for 3 months and lost 2 1/2 stone . Ready for my next bldtest thinking alls good . Although i had been feeling rubbish for a while legs hurt, constant bladder infection, thirsty, weeing like i was in some sort of competition!!! But i have gynaecology stuff going on and we ( myself and Dr) put it down to this.
so theres me thinking alls going to be good bldlevels must be lower... nope had raised to 140 and ketones of 2.7 rushed into a&e earlier this week!! Results are ketones are there because iv LOST weight
Home now, they have increased my metformin to 4 daily. Levels are hovering between 20-25 ketones 2.2 .
finding this really hard as iv been working so hard feeling deflated!!!
any help would be fab xx

Welcome to the forum @Nuttybird

It sounds very much to me like you most likely were mis-classified, and should be checked for autoimmune antibodies and cPeptide for possible LADA.

This can resemble T2 in the early months, and can respond to oral meds initially, but as the beta-cell mass begins to dwindle there reaches a tipping point where the pancreas can no longer keep up.

But thirsty, toilet, tired, and thinner are the 4Ts, along with ketones and the very high BGs. I’m a bit surprised that you didn’t get more of a check-over at A&E - do get straight back there if you experience abdominal pain, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting because of the risk of DKA.

I echo exactly what @everydayupsanddowns has just said. Ring GP, tell them you want blood tests for GAD antibodies and C-peptide and if they won't do them you'll seek them privately because even if they don't - You consider yourself worth the investment!

I do mean the latter - goodness knows how much it might cost - but - it incenses me that with all the ruddy classic symptoms no medically qualified person has yet managed to put 2 and 2 together to make 4.

Agree with you both.

Welcome to the forum @Nuttybird from a late starter with T1 (LADA)
It is so often misdiagnosed as in the early stages the symptoms are similar, however it does sound as if you are now lacking more Beta cells making insulin. Well worth asking to be tested to LADA/T1.

Let us know how you get on

Hello and welcome to the forum @Nuttybird 🙂

Welcome to the forum Nuttybird.
Did you hear mention of you using insulin?

Hi Nuttybird
Just had to respond as so like my story. Diagnosed with Type 2 just over 2 years ago. I was overweight. HbA1bs was 97. I lost two stone and got it down to 42.
My husband and I went to New Zealand in Jan/Feb (lucky us I know) and I was probably a bit naughty with my diet and alcohol . But when I got back returned to earning and drinking less. But end of March I was going to the loo constantly I carried a bottle of water with me all the time as my mouth was so dry. My trousers had to be taken in because they were just falling off me.
So l went to the doctors and got a blood test . On the 30th April my doctor rang me and said I needed to go into hospital for a few hours for rehydration because I had keytones in my blood.
l ended up being in hospital for 36 hours I was diagnosed with type 1 probably LADA . It came as a big surprise and I was bitterly disappointed that this was something I had to live with after all the hard work I had done to lose weight.
But l have got used to the injections of insulin I don’t like the finger pricks but I hope to get a Libre monitor (l have done the hard slog of 8 tests a day for 4 weeks) which means I will get a better knowledge of my blood glucose levels.
Life is not normal but I am getting there . I echo was others have said you need to be tested. I have to finish now as it is getter towards lunchtime and I find my glucose levels drop a lot and I need to eat .

HbA1bc was 41 at my last test in August.
Val
