Type 2
Hi! I'm new here... I am struggling with type 2. Trying to be strict with diet and regular walks. Finding it very hard with no support especially through lockdown. I struggle with overwhelming tiredness sometimes - usually late afternoon - is that normal symptom?

Welcome to the forum Abalone
Tiredness is certainly an often reported symptom. How "normal" I wouldn't known. Mine could be quite possibly down to my heart problems.

Hi Abalone! I definitely get ‘carb coma’ when my BG is too high.

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hello @abalone and welcome to our forum.

Well done on keeping to your diet plan and exercise, many of us find it a challenge and lockdown has added to the challenges as well.
Tiredness can have many causes, sometimes related to what you eat, and stress and anxiety can be another contributor.

Have you been diagnosed as type 2 for very long, and do you know your latest blood glucose reading?
What sort of diet plan are you following? - Sorry, lots of questions, but the more we know, the more we may be able to help.

If you have a browse around the forum, you will see that many T2s, including me, follow a low carb eating plan, and there are other plans that also work well. We also find that having a blood glucose meter, so that we can measure progress and see the effects of eating different foods is also a great help.
May be you already know about these things, but if not we can give you some pointers to find out more.

Hello, I have to say of all the down sides of diabetes, my tiredness is the worse by far. When I was first diagnosed in 2012, I would fall asleep in the gym and I found out that my testosterone level put my age at over 100, I was 49 at the time. I take testosterone gel now but I am struggling to stay awake throughout my working day and if I do, I need a nap after work and currently working from home at my desk. Is there anything out there anyone knows of that can help me beat this tiredness?
Thanks for reading 🙂

Er, that's a bit high to be living with day to day for ever so long - could well be the main reason you're so tired. What have you tried doing to reduce your BG in the way of diet?

Welcome to the forum @abalone and @Rodweiller

Tiredness is associated with high BG, but I generally find it needs to be elevated for a while before it really kicks in.

I wouldn't expect tiredness in the 7s, but once it gets nearer double figures I think it would be more of a factor for me.

Hopefully reducing BGs will give you a bit more pep - and will be better for you generally too, of course!
