Hello Peter @prs853 and welcome to the forum.
It looks like you have been living with Type 2 for a long time, do you manage to keep it fairly well under control?
I hope that you find the forum useful, and if you have a browse around you will see there are many and varied topics being discussed.
I see you have also posted a message regarding making contact with nurses with type 2, and I am sure you will get some responses to this.
Yes l have had it a long time and over the years went on a roller coaster . At first l was well controlled then got complacent. During this period l lost nearly 4 stone. I let my sugar level go up a bit so five years ago l purchased an electric bike, it was wonderful my sugar would be 11.5 at the start and be 5.5 when l finished.
Two years later l ditched the ebike and had a road bike but hills were a real struggle and one day l collapsed, l had been cycling with three 90% blocked arteries . I had my triple heart bypass 3 years ago and it was going great until the nurse said l would be going onto insulin if l could not get my sugar down.
l went on a low carb high fat eating plan and that done the trick.
Hi Peter. Sounds like you have been through the mill but thankfully come out the other side which is great to hear. I expect you know most of what you should but if you do have any questions/worries or just need a chat or even a rant, this is a great place to do it. We are all in the same boat so do understand when people need to ask small, huge or even silly questions as they are all important.
As for your point about being an essential worker, nobody wants pests at a time when we are all struggling anyhow. I am a Medical Secretary at a GP surgery but at present am in an 'isolation hub for those who are vulnerable' but it is a waste of time for me as there is very little work. Obviously as things return to normal I will be madly busy as all those routine referrals will start again. Take care and look forward to seeing you posting.
Thanks for the reply. The problem l am having is with ignorant so called colleagues becoming experts all” of a sudden , l put out an advert on Facebook and he put on a comment, you are vulnerable get home and that mask won’t work, it was for protection of others in case l cough.
Sadly no matter what we do it can be misconstrued and people feel they have the right to comment on what we all do, whether it is acceptable or not. If you are doing a necessary job and taking appropriate precautions then there is very little else you can do. We all have to be responsible for our own actions.
Welcome to the forum @prs853 at the confusing and difficult time.
You are doing an essential job and taking the necessary precautions, so ignore those ‘experts’.
If you have any questions about managing your diabetes, just ask.
Lots of help and sensible advice available on here.
I have learnt most of what I know about my management from others on here.
Congratulations on your weight loss, and great to hear that you were able to make big changes to your BG by switching to a lower carb way of eating.
Sounds like cycling has been a big part of your life - have you been able to continue since your heart op, or have you had to switch to other activities?
And sorry to hear about your run-in with the armchair ’experts’ 🙄
Thank you for continuing your important work, and well done for taking sensible precautions to stop spreading the virus, if you happened to be asymptomatic. Hope you can keep yourself well, and take all the precautions you can to protect yourself.
