Hi there,

Lurked a few times here & thought it was about time I joined and said Hi.

Diagnosed T2 at age 30 (18 years ago), was diet controlled for over 10 years but gradually over the last few years moved onto increased medication (Metformin, Glicazide and Pioglitazone).

Due to life (looking after a mother with dementia and mobility issues then her passing away) over the last 2-3 years my diet and therefore Hba1c results have been rather high (110 at one point, then down to 64 last September and back up to 75 in January).

First time in years I made a new years resolution and have stuck to it - get my diabetes under control! Well had my latest result this morning and down to 58. Still slightly high I know but v pleased. Also lost 11lbs since January which is good! Nurse practitioner has reduced my Gliclazide from 2 tablets twice a day to 1 twice a day, primarily as I had stopped going to the gym as it was giving me hypos which I could feel. Under strict instructions to keep a good eye on my blood sugar levels and call him if there are any problems.

Back for another test in June - hoping it's come down further!

Anyway I think this is great place - you'll be seeing more of me.

Hi Sally & welcome to the forum.🙂 Sorry to hear you have been through so much but good to see things are getting back on track. You will get a lot of support on here.🙂

Welcome, well done on getting you HbA1c down, especially after everything you have been through.

Welcome Sally, I am in virtually the same situation, in caring for my mother for like 25 years who passed away 3 1/2 years ago with dementia, cancer and phenomia and levels were all over the place, been a major problem for me for years.

Towards the end of last year, start seeing someone as friends and we are now great friends and support each other. My eating habits are changing for the better as we both try and keep an eye on each other making sure we eat better, though my levels can still swing wildly from the teens to hypo within a couple of hours. The same food one day can still result in one day being in an acceptable range and another in the teens. I can't lower my dose of meds as my levels will just sky rocket as usual and unfortunately I am maxed out on my tablets. Being with her and having the flu i have lost 10.7 lilos and feel a lot better in myself than I have for years 99% is down to the lady. So much is improving I have booked my first holiday since the 80's and will be booking another holiday for the very near future.

Hi Sally and a warm welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your result today, 58 is a huge drop from 75, so definitely something to be pleased about. Sounds like you have a very supportive nurse too?
Good luck for your next test, but I am sure you don't need it with such a determined and positive attitude 🙂

Hi Sally and welcome to the forum. 🙂 I guess you're either into bikes or of Italian background. :D

Hi Pav, thanks for the welcome. Sounds like you’ve been through a lot, glad you’ve got such a supportive friend now. Enjoy your holidays, I went on my first one in years last year and realised how beneficial they are.

Thanks. Yes he is very supportive, always spends whatever time is needed to go through things and asks what I think as well.

HaHa, yes I’m into bikes. My pride and joy is a Ducati Monster 696.

Same here though ride a Suzi vstrom 1000 and a BMW armchair, which forever needs something doing to it to keep it going.
