I was diagnosed type 2 3 months ago .
Just wondered if anyone has had side effects from metformin like aching muscles or joints

Morning Deborah a warm welcome. After taking met from pretty much the start 9 years ago can't say I've had that issue sorry

Hi and welcome to the forum. Ive not had those side effects, but was about to ask the same question as Grovesy.

It just seems since starting met i have been getting pains in my hips and knees and finger joints.
My legs ache after a short walk . Going to see gp next week for my first reviewso will get to mention it then

Hello to Deborah.

Hello & a warm welcome to our friendly helpful & supportive forum as you will no doubt find out. I was on Metformin (or Metfartin to some of us!) but my GP withdrew that med because I couldn't tolerate it because of the laxative side effects - tho there are quite a few here who don't have a problem with it at all.

If you suspect the Metformin is the cause of your aches & pains you may like to ask your GP for a more gentle version of Metformin called Slow Release. My GP put me on Sukkarto SR (2 tabs daily) but unfortunately for me after enduring it for about 4wks similar side effects returned so my GP withdrew this as well. I have been managing my Diabetes with diet control & exercise only. As i recall, I didn't have the aches & pains you describe. Good luck & take care x
WL
