Latest HBA1 is 7.9 DSN says still ok.
Cholesterol down to 5 (was 5.9)
BP 133/60 same as last year.

BUT latest retinopathy eye test showed some minor changes . These changes do not need treatment at present.

This last 6 months or so, I have generally had the opinion of 'sod it if I want cake I will have cake' which has been a few times..:(

Also bearing in mind it was my birthday in July and had a blow out including cake.

Happy belated birthday! Of course you should have cake on your birthday, you're only human! 🙂 Also, it's good to have the occasional treat, ideally as part of a main meal so the impact on your levels will be lower.

I think most of us have had that letter about the minor retinopathy changes, it can come and go - keeping an eye on your blood pressure and keeping good blood sugar control will reduce the risks (as you might expect!)

Well done on lowering your cholesterol - it's now at a level that they expect from a non-diabetic, although they like us to aim lower, for 4.0 or less.

The only thing I would challenge is your nurse's assertion that 7.9% is OK - I would say it's a bit on the high side. 6.5% or lower will significantly reduce your risks of complications, so worth trying to get it down a bit 🙂

Agree with Alan the 7.9 % is on the high side, and could cause complications, did with me.

Some docs / DN's appear to be in the darks ages and want us to run high, so there is less risk of hypos, and not what's best for the patient.

Thanks folks.

I am going to try this latest idea of trying to just eat/drink soups made with water only.I eat loads of fruit veg anyway and drop right down on fat and carbs and see if I can 'dislodge fatty lumps from my liver and pancreas.

There was a story recently of a chap doing just that and his diabetes T2 disappeared after 11 days.

It sounds logical that the liver and pancreas gets clogged with fat that stops the insulin doing its job.
As a vegan it should be easier than most so out with bread/biscuits/cakes/beans and cut down on fat. Less nuts too.

Take care with cutting out the beans and nuts if you're vegan as your name implies. They do provide essential nutrients that us omnivores can get from meat. Pardon me if the words grandmother and eggs spring to mind!

Thanks. I am still having some beans but not many. Nuts just a few as a snack.
