Welcome to the forums Immy 🙂

Immy hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi Immy, Welcome to the forum, What a brilliant improvement on your HBA1C. I am not diabetic but am Mum to Kate who was diagnosed 18 months ago. She finds it very difficult to check blood in front of people. A teacher at her school last year told her she could not test her blood in the classroom and that she must stand outside in the corridor, she was hypo the time too (low 2's). Luckily this teacher is in the minority as most have been really supportive.

I hope that that teacher got a good talking to! 😱

I'm only laid back because I come from a family of nurses and diabetics.
My mum has the same attitude, so i picked it up from her.
That and I never liked the thought of taking my insulin in the toilets, so I didn't really have another choice lol

I can appreciate how hard it can be for other people, particuarly if they're only recently diagnosed.

Do you mind me asking how old you were/ when you were diagnosed?

No ofcourse not. I was about 8 years old, and I turn 20 in a number of days..(35 but whos counting :') ) i was the first diabetic in my family and friends. its weird, i have a laid back attitude for everything except medical issues..i just cant accept it. oh well, perhaps in time!

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone 🙂

elaine, I'm sorry to hear your daughter has had to deal with a difficult teacher, but it's good to hear that the others are supportive 🙂

Sacredgirl, I can't imagine being the first to get it, as I always watched my mum. I imagine if I was in the same situation I'd have the same attitude on it as you 🙂
In 13 years you're the first person I've met to also be diagnosed as a child.
