Hello, I'm a newly-diagnosed Type 2. Actually feeling quite positive about the diagnosis as it's given me the jump-start to get into better habits and am already starting to see some weight loss. It's almost exciting to be thinking about new food I can try and stuff I might be able to do if I'm a bit slimmer. Seems odd to be pleased with having a disease but I wonder if any others also found this.

yes, I get where you're coming from, I feel the same, although I have found it does take time, but the opportunity to try new foods and recipes, and generally get fitter is a good Incentive
 
Welcome to the forum, what a positive attitude to your diagnosis, it will make it all the easier to engage with what you need to do. Many sadly not enough do regard it as a bit of a wake up call and a nudge to change their life style for the better.
I found the principals in this link set me on the right track and found the low carb approach works for me though it is not the only way as some people do other way. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/ will hopefully give you some new ideas for dietary change.
It is all about understanding that it is all carbohydrates which convert to glucose so reducing those is a good way to go but it does not mean that you need to have NO carbohydrates.

Were you given your HbA1c number? It's your average blood sugar level over the past 3 months which often forms part of the info your doctor uses to diagnose you. It's handy to note this down so you can track your progress.

Thanks. I was given that number, which is useful - always good to have a handy way to see how far you're going.
 
agreed, i saw it as a wake up call and an excuse to actually do things like go for a walk at lunch everyday instead of just sitting at my desk or on the sofa during my break.
  • i've started walking once or twice a day
  • better managing my portion control during meals
  • eating mostly the same evening meals but changing the ratios to have less bread/rice/pasta and more of the veg and salad
  • cut down on the junk food
  • stopped getting fizzy drinks and sugary food just because i needed a break from work/bored
i didnt even think of finding new meals and new food to cook which is always enjoyable.

Type 2 is a condition, really, not a disease - a condition of having meat and a bit of salad or a stir fry for breakfast and feeling great.
I'm just trying on winter clothes and finding that, yet again I need to take in the waistline on trousers and skirts.
I do drink some sugar free fizzy stuff, but not all the time - last time I went shopping there was non to buy!!

We have been struggling to buy the flavoured sparkling water on and off for weeks. Lemon and lime seems particularly scarce.
