Hi I'm hannah

Was diagnosed with diabetes today over the phone and have to wait till 3rd August to speak to nurse

Am freaking out a bit

Changing diet to low carb

Ahh don’t freak out, I know it’s scary and overwhelming but we can help you get back on track. It would be useful for you to know your hba1c (will be a number over 47) this will make it easier to assist you, see you might be just a little bit in to the diabetic zone or quite a bit. Either way, we can help. Your not on your own xx

My hba1c was 42 so I'm *just* prediabetic. It's motivated me to do what I should have done ages ago - namely lose some weight and exercise. After a few weeks, I already feel the best I have done for some time.

Best of luck with your appointment and welcome to the forum. The people here are really friendly 🙂

Hey im currently at 77
Cut out most carbs blood sugars between 9 and 12 atm. Not started meds yet.

Hi, my HbA1c was 80 at diagnosis, and I've got it down to non-diabetic levels by losing weight and eating a better diet, so it's doable, and you've already started by addressing your diet.
I got a second hand copy of this book on reversing your T2 diabetes by Professor Roy Taylor and followed it's guidance. The proceeds of the book go to Diabetes UK, and the research behind it was paid for by them too, so he's not in it for the money or to sell you special diets or anything.
I can recommend easing back on the carbs a bit slower at first so it's not such a shock to your system.
Best wishes, Sarah

As mentioned you are advised to cut back on carbs gradually, may be cut the obvious cakes, biscuits and sugary drinks out first and reducing the other bit hitters like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, pastry and tropical fruits.

Hi Humph.han, welcome to the forum.

It's a bit of a pain to get a diagnosis then have a wait to speak with anyone about it but you'll be fine.

We've got lots of info n the forum and on our main site that you can have a look at in the mean time. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns and we'll do our best to help.
