Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Diagnosed on Friday with type 2 .My hb1ac level was 78/79 (had repeat test within a week). Saw nurse on Friday and have been put on Glitzeride 40 mg twice a day. I am overweight and definitely am now focused on loosing weight and trying to reverse this. The diabetic nurse although friendly scared me to death when said they requested a cat scan of pancreas as levels have increased quite rapidly 2019 were 43 is 78 . I’m 53 . At the time couldn’t think why they would be high but after looking up how these results work my diets been pretty rubbish the past three months and I’m someone who suffers anxiety and stress could this affect the levels ?

Welcome the forum, sorry your level has risen from the prediabetic level a couple of years ago but certainly doing nothing about your diet and stress can certainly increase blood glucose level.
The medication you have been given encourages the pancreas to produce more insulin so you need to go carefully with reducing your carbohydrate intake but doing that is certainly going to help.
You should have been prescribed a blood glucose monitor and strips as that is a medication that can cause low blood glucose so you should have the ability to test particularly if you drive.
Looking at your diet is important, and this link may help you to make some changes, it is a low carb approach based on REAL food but as I said make some gradual reduction to make sure you are safe with the medication. I'm not sure what is the suggested carbs per day if you are taking gliclazide but usually with a low carb approach it would be no more than 130g per day.

Thankyou I have got a monitor and test strips - not sure if I was supposed to be testing once or twice a day as didn’t take it all in . Ive been doing slimmingworld the last month .Lost 5lb this week but think some of that’s probably down to stress

People use testing for a number of purposes.
By testing before you eat and after 2 hours you can find out if the meal you have had has been tolerated without increasing your blood glucose by more than 2-3mmol/l, if it is more than that then it means you need to cut out or reduce the portion of the high carb food. You would be aiming that your 2 hour post meal reding would be no more than 8-8.5mmol/l.
People can test every morning to monitor progress day to day, week to week etc, that essentially gives a fasting reading which again you would be aiming at 4-7mmol/l.
It is also a good idea to test if you feel unwell as that may indicate high or low blood glucose and will enable you to take action.
Slimming World can work for people to help lose weight as long as you are careful about the carbohydrates in some of their meals unless you have a tailored program suitable for Type 2 diabetics as they can be too high in carbs for many to tolerate.
