Hello, I have had t1d since I was 11 (32) now and I have never known anyone else that has it. I have always struggled with it and often end up feeling quite alone and depressed. So if you’d like to chat or get to know each other, share stores and just find someone for some general support then please get in touch! My name is Mia ☺️

Hi Mia and welcome.

You have come to the right place to make friends and compare notes on diabetes although we are all surprisingly different in the challenges we face with it and how we manage them. I am a relative newbie with coming up 2 years since diagnosis (now 56) so rather a late starter, but this forum has been a massive support to me during that time and I can't imagine how I would have coped without it. I hope you find it equally beneficial.

Would you like to tell us a bit more about yourself and your diabetes.... Are you on MDI or a pump and which insulin(s) you use? Do you have Freestyle Libre? Are there any areas with your diabetes management that you struggle with particularly?

We have a thread on the forum called "Group 7-day waking average" where we post our morning fasting readings each day and share snippets of info about our lives, like plans for the day or things that are bothering us.... and maybe have a bit of banter. It has become almost like a virtual coffee morning. Maybe you would like to join in that and get to know us a bit better. It is a very long thread so don't feel you have to read it from the start, just jump in and post your morning reading and you will soon get the hang of it by reading other posts and get to know us. Here is the link if you feel that would be something you would like....

Hope to see you there but look forward to reading more about you here too.

Welcome to the forum Mia

This is a great place to get to chat to others about how they manage their diabetes.
I have learnt most of what I know about the tech available from others on here, and they patiently explain in plain English when I get stuck on things. There is also great support for those ups and downs of living with Diabetes.

As we are such a rare breed of people it is quite difficult to meet others. One of the best things that I did was to volunteer on the T1 Family Events. Over the weekend I was surrounded by others testing, jabbing, pumping insulin and just getting on with things. I found the first one quite overwhelming, not because it was difficult, it was just so amazing to be amongst such a bunch of friendly ‘normal’ T1s. If you are interested in that idea contact Odette.Thakrar@diabetes.org.uk
There are no physical events at present but there are chances to meet the other volunteers through Zoom.

If you fancy letting us know how you manage your T1: MDI, Libre, Pump, CGM and
What insulin(s) you are using, that will help us to tailor our ideas.

I look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the forum @Miacatx

Glad you have found us!

Living with T1 can be very isolating and frustrating, and it can be quite rare to meet another ‘in the wild’. Even then... the T1s I had met before joining the online community didn’t seem to have a T1 that behaved much like mine.

But things were very different when I started comparing notes with others online! Suddenly there were dozens of people and hundreds of shared experiences and ‘me too!’ moments.

Ask away with any questions, and let us know of there are any things that you are finding particularly difficult or frustraring at the moment and we’ll see if the forum ‘hive mind‘ has any tips or suggestions.
