hi, I started out on the normal 2.5 mg of Mounjaro I didn’t seem to have any side-effects, but since being raised to the 5 mg I have noticed daily extreme dizziness, especially through the night and when waking, and also some false hypos at around 7 mmol/L my insulin dosage has been reduced quite dramatically by my diabetic nurse from 116 units a.m. And 112 unit PM. Of Nova mix 30 to now being on 60 units.

However, I’m still regularly getting the dizzy spells after two weeks of being gone 5 mg of Mounjaro, I’m just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue or side effect, in a way it’s just a reassure me that this is normal as after speaking to my GP they basically said it’s the Mounjaro And have yet to help me in any way or consider it something else, so as I said, I’m just trying to get a little bit of clarity if anyone else has struggled with a similar problem?

Dizziness does seem to be a recognised side effect of Mounjaro @MikeModelsky

Particularly when starting the medication, or when increasing the dose.

It can be connected to changes in gut transit of food, including dehydration, but it can also be a symptom of low blood glucose because Mounjaro encourages the body to release extra insulin.

Your Dr should give you a blood glucose meter so that you can check your levels when you get these side effects to ensure they aren’t related to low or falling blood glucose levels.

Hi there! I really appreciate your response. It understand the dizziness I'm experiencing may be a common transitional issue with Mounjaro, and I have a blood meter that’s not showing any low blood sugar readings. Even though my GP and diabetic nurse mentioned that these side effects can happen, they encouraged me to reach out to an online community of fellow diabetics. I’m eager to hear from other type 2 diabetics who have either just started or increased their Mounjaro dosage.

I’m curious about the levels of dizziness others experienced and if they had similar readings of "false hypos." It would be great to get some insights on how long those side effects lasted for them, too. I’m particularly interested in whether anyone else has dealt with that intense room-spinning dizziness.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and hopefully others will respond who have encountered similar.

Hi @MikeModelsky hope you see the benefit of Mounjaro
I haven’t experienced really any unwelcome side effects of Mounjaro, nor had false hypos myself for many years
in my case I took the 2.5 mg dose of MJ for over 2 months before increasing to 5
and a similar time before increasing to 7.5

so my thought was if a lower dose is effective it might be worth exploring the possibility of extending the smaller dose

Hi, I have been on Mounjaro since December, I am still on 5mg and have had dizziness, I think I generally wasn’t eating enough. I have eaten more carbs this week and had no dizzinessx

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply—I’ve been busy catching up after my hospital stay, just like you. I’ve noticed that when I eat enough carbs, the dizziness tends to go away. My diabetic nurse mentioned that I’d need to reduce my insulin a bit each time I increased the Mounjaro dose. However, when I moved from 2.5 mg to 5 mg, I had to cut my insulin almost in half! I’ve experienced some sudden drops in blood sugar and a lot of ups and downs with my overall well-being, which even triggered my afib. I’ve gone from taking 118 units of Nova mix 30 down to just 60 units, and thankfully, that seems to have helped some. Staying hydrated has also been super important in managing the side effects. Hope you’re doing well!

Hi, I had severe dizziness when I went from 2.5 to 5, and again when I went from 5 - 7.5, it does settle after a few weeks.
I've also had a few false hypo alarms on my cgm, usually during the night so I take my glucotabs but in the morning the cgm graph doesn't show any hypo's and I've had some false readings - only really know if I do the finger prick test !
