Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi there

New here and this is my first post.

Just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes was a bit of a shock but it is what it is. I'm going to look upon on it as something to square up to and take the opportunity to improve my lifestyle and make new friends.

Finding my way round all the new forms is a bit odd, and will be seeing the Practice Nurse in about 4 weeks but in the meantime watching my Carb and sugar intake while at the same time doing a bit of research so I can give an account of what I have done so far. I will likely be asking many questions and as my experience grows will become and answer giver, I inted to use my new found situation more than it uses me!

That's all for now but I will check back regularly for any replies or new content

Andy

Hi Andy, we;come to the forum 🙂 Sounds like a good approach to me! Please ask as many questions as you need to, it can be a complex condition but you'll probably find that anything that is bugging you will be something one or more of us will have had similar experiences with. I'd suggest having a browse of our Useful links thread, which contains links to lots of good resources. I'd particularly draw your attention to Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, which offer a good introduction. Plenty of information to get to grips with, but much will also be learned from personal experience as diabetes can be a very individual condition.

Hi Andy, welcome to the forum, this place is great for advice and questions. I'm fairly new to all this diabetes stuff too. They are a great bunch on here and will offer advice if you need it.

Welcome to the forum Andy 🙂

Hi Andy

Another valuable resource is a blog written by an Australian (who is the author of a book too) Alan Shanley which explains a lot of things in absolute layman's terms. Some of it is useful to all diabetics of any type and any age - not just T2s - plus he's quite amusing - he's a genuinely nice bloke.

Anyway have a look if you want - http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.co.uk/

Thanks for the replies everyone, it is what I expected of a live Forum like this.
I will start to digest all the links and information over the coming week(s)

Welcome aboard Andy, hope you find it useful here 🙂

Welcome Andy. You will do yourself a big favour if you take on board info. Good luck
