Hello @Allanh1. Welcome to the forum
There are many of us here living with diabetes and will always try to answer questions and help you.

A useful place to start may be to have a look at useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes and the Type 2 tag.
or on the main website https://www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/what-is-type-2-diabetes

It would be interesting to learn more about you. Have you been diagnosed recently? and do you know what you Blood glucose reading is, and have you been given any particular guidance and medication?
Are there any particular things you would like some more information on?

Hi.
I was diagnosed on 10th Jan this year
with Hb1 ca 118
Glucose 16.7
started metformin 500mg x 4 a day
Side affects OMG my body took 3wks to calm down. I drive for a living and have a had a few close incidents as toilets aren’t always available.
bought an accu view mobile to monitor glucose averages are mainly 8.5 - 9.3 before meals.
Depending on my shifts can get some reading as low as 7.2
Not sure if i can split the 2 tabs before 1st meal and 2 with last meal maybe 2 1 & 1 may shorten large gap between early to late shift ??

Talk to your healthcare team about the problems you're having with your medications. There are options (there's a slow release Metformin, and Metformin's far from the only medication available), and it seems what you're on now isn't very practical for you.

Maybe you could ask for mercy and to stop the medication to see how well you do on diet alone.
I was put straight onto Metformin and Atorvastatin and was so ill. Eventually I threw them in the bin and went on eating a low carb diet, I was back in normal numbers very quickly, never needed the pills in the first place.

Welcome to the forum @Allanh1

Sorry to hear Metfartin is giving you the runaround. :( As others have said, it might be worth asking about a slow release version. It also helps to take Met in the middle of a meal I believe.

Great that you have found the forum - there is a lot of support and information here, and it can really help to share experiences and pick the brains of people who are living with the same challenges every day.

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it is one that can usually be managed well, and shouldn’t stop you doing the things you enjoy. It is perfectly possible to life a long and healthy life alongside Well managed diabetes, and many people find that their diagnosis becomes a catalyst to make positive changes towards a happier and more active life.
