Yes I'm not really expecting much change in the blood test; what interests me is that 8 pounds have been lost in 3 weeks without cutting calories. It's an eye-opener to someone who was always taught that calories was the main thing in weight loss.

That's probably due to the depletion of glucagon stores, which is a side effect of a low carb diet.

Weight loss may hit a plateau or stop.

I did low carb, and didn't actively count calories, but I knew I was < 1500 a day.

Thanks Harbottle, my calories are probalby less anyway as I have replaced most carbs with lean meat, fish, veg etc.

These glucagon stores that you mention; are their depletion a good thing, or bad, or insignificant?

Thank You

I don’t think they matter. It’s how the body stores dietary glucose.

Sounds like a good approach - same as mine, which worked wonders!

That's great and thank you.

Actually, I think it’s glycogen that is the stored form of glucose. I always get the two mixed up! Glucagon is the hormone that stimulates glycogen to be released.

Well the next habc1 test is on Tuesday, and hoping for some improvement on the numbers. Not really sure what sort of numbers I am expecting but I do know it won't be for the want of trying. Low carb and eating well has knocked 17lb of me in the last 3 months. Got a bit of a shock at weekend as diagnosed with cataracts but hoping they will operate at some point. Until then, let's see what next week brings!

Your 3 months of low carb should have had a positive effect so good luck with your test.

Well done on the weight loss @Shaun1971

Hope your follow-up results fully reflect the effort you have put in and encourage you to continue 🙂

Many people on the forum say the catalyst of their diagnosis made them make positive changes that they’d been meaning to for years, and never quite got round to. Folks sometimes say they feel fitter and healthier having been diagnosed with diabetes than they have for years, and that various other ailments are also significantly improved 🙂

Thank you @everydayupsanddowns, and those were my thoughts too. i now have an issue which has become more important. My vision has been getting much worse (not diabetes related) ober the last month, and I ahve beenn told I have cataracts, I thnk it is a lot more serious than cataracts as vison going downhill fairly quickly. I'll justv plod on, ho[ong that things get better somehow, not sure how.

Well I turned up as planned for them to do the Habc1 blood testand they said they couldn't do it as the "veins weren't coming up". I've no idea when the next test will be as getting time off work again is going to be tricky, and the nurse said she needs someone there to help her the next time. Waste of time.

Well I finally have a date for my next Habc1 which I should have had on the 7th Feb. Test is now on the 7th March. Weight loss is now 23 lbs over 15 weeks. Here's hoping they can take the blood.

Best of luck with that. Make sure to drink a glass of water before yopu set off for the appointment and I find walking fast or running down to the GP practice for my appointment ensures by blood is pumping and veins are easy to see..... Not so good for my blood pressure but they usually do that last to give me time to relax and bring it down.

Thank you, I will do that. Apparently I have "tough arms" Maybe they can get it from elsewhere.
