I rechecked my skin cleaning swaps (which I don't use for skin cleaning) and they are marked as 70% iso Hospital grade. It is now recommended that you keep away from skin! Oh how times have changed

Welcome to the forum @stillgoing

A fascinating thread you’ve started.

I’ve met another long-term T1 @Lis Warren who brought a palmer injection gun to a talk she was giving. Looks cool in a James Bond kind of way... but also terrifying!

There is a Facebook group that has been set up for a few years where 50 year medallists can link up

Did you get to try the gun? The amount of pressure required on the trigger to release it is huge. I would like to have met the person who designed it and ask what the ... was he thinking!🙂

Thank you for the link to the face book. I'm not really very sociable and have only just started with this forum.

As I mentioned in the tech link I was very into microprocessors at operating system level and below like drivers but know nothing at this level and trying to react with people is even worse. I hope I don't upset too many people but I now have hand problems so trying to type is a problem so I abbreviate to try and save typing and then miss a word out changing the meaning. My brain thinks far faster then my hands can keep up and always has done. I am a typical engineer very introvert.

I remember the glass syringes and the silver grey “spirit proof “ case. Spirit proof? All I remember is how the case started corroding around the bottom as if it was the spirit eating it’s way through. Made me very nervous about using that same stuff to clean my skin. Especially after my elder sister told me she used some to harden her feet for a long walk.
Ah the good old days.

Hi @Barbie1 My first case was also a metal one. Not sure if it was the spirit or the insulin that made it corrode. The picture shows a plastic updated version. This used to get brown crud on it which I think came from the insulin residue! I used to steralise these when I didi the syringe. Had two on the go.

My arms did git very hard! The rockal was a great improvement. There was also zinc in the insulin to cause the delayed effect. This made my arms very scaly. Using the modern insulins no longer have these problems!
