Hi

I have a long way to go but my aim at the minute is 3 stone loss

Welcome to the forum, Goosey. Congratulations on your weight loss so far and best wishes for reaching your goal.

Can anyone please explain to me how to work the sugar out in something? and what level is acceptable?

Hi. What you need to look at is carbs in total, not just sugar. In fact, some refined carbs can raise BG faster than table sugar. I check the labels on everything I buy. If you are making something yourself, it's more complicated. You will have to weigh different ingredients & check carbs on internet.

Ok thanks, no nearer now really:confused:😉 how many should we have a day?

I'm afraid that's not an easy question to answer. We are all different & tolerate foods differently. The best advice to buy a blood glucose meter & test your blood sugar level before & 2 hours after eating. You are looking for a rise of no more than 3 mmols/l after eating. I stick to a very low carb diet myself (50-60g a day) I make sure no meal I have is more than 20g carbs. Not everyone is able to get that low, so it's about finding what suits you long term. My levels are now back in the non diabetic range & I find I can be a bit more lenient with what I eat now without i affecting me too much.
