I'm type 2, have been since the early 90s. Tried pills and diet for a year, but got nowhere and I now use insulin and metformin. To be honest diabetes was pretty low on my list of priorities, having been in a wheelchair since 89 after sustaining a spinal injury. However, that attitude has caught up with me and I've decided to take things a little more seriously.
I started the low carb diet about four weeks ago and have noticed dramatic decrease in numbers. I've been adjusting my insulin to suit and am already taking 20/22 units less insulin per day and my blood sugar readings, on the whole, remain stable. I don't feel hungry, ever, which is a bonus I wasn't expecting. I would like to know whether there are others on this forum that have taken back control without consulting their GP?
