Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I'm type 2, have been since the early 90s. Tried pills and diet for a year, but got nowhere and I now use insulin and metformin. To be honest diabetes was pretty low on my list of priorities, having been in a wheelchair since 89 after sustaining a spinal injury. However, that attitude has caught up with me and I've decided to take things a little more seriously.

I started the low carb diet about four weeks ago and have noticed dramatic decrease in numbers. I've been adjusting my insulin to suit and am already taking 20/22 units less insulin per day and my blood sugar readings, on the whole, remain stable. I don't feel hungry, ever, which is a bonus I wasn't expecting. I would like to know whether there are others on this forum that have taken back control without consulting their GP?

Welcome Budgie 😉 If I as T2 that's what I would do too "Low Carb". Good Luck 😉

Welcome Budgie. You have obviously had a lot to deal with, but I am pleased to see that you are now taking steps to get you Diabetes under control. I know that many other T2s find testing their BG useful to identify what impact certain foods have on their BG, and to adjust accordingly. Some have turned to low carb, and others reduced their carbs. You will gradually find what works for you, and there is a lot of useful experience available on this forum.
Keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on

Welcome Budgie, if I’d have followed my gp’s advice I’d dread to think where I’d be now....I followed the advice of the guys here, went the low carb route and dropped from a bg of 22 to a nice steady 5.5 🙂 you will get loads of support, advice and ideas here so ask anything you need 😉 well done for taking back control :D

Welcome to the forum Budgie from a fellow T2 who's 3.5 years in.
