hello I have been diagnosed for 2 years but thought I could manage by myself but my recent HB1 blood test has proved that I can’t as it has gone up by 25 points in a year. I am now really scared
 
Welcome to the forum Gilly.

There is plenty of experience on here from people who are managing this condition on a day to day basis. It is a lot to take in at the start. Tell us a bit about how you manage your Diabetes, then we can give more specific advice.

I know that a lot of people with T2 have found the book Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker. I know that you are further on than that but It contains a lot of clear explanations and information.

Gilly don't be scared there's no point...I believe many of us here were in exactly the same position at some point...are you able to give us a little more information...that would give members an idea of how they can help...know what support to offer you...are you able to tell us how you've been managing your diabetes...if you are on any medication...what support if any were you given by your health care team...if you'd prefer not to answer those questions just now that's understandable...we can come back to that when you feel ready...there is a wealth of information available on how to manage type2 diabetes so much it can be overwhelming...it would be useful to know how much you know about it before recommending any specific reading or research material...although I must say the book mentioned by @SB2015 is to my mind essential reading for anyone with T2...whether newly diagnosed or several years into their diagnosis...if you can get back to us with a little more information that would help us to help you.

Hi @Gillybeans, I'm just fairly recently diagnosed with Type 2, but have been greatly helped by members of this forum, from an initial diagnosis with an HbA1c of 77, I'm now fairly well maintained at under 6 m.mol/l BG on waking, and reasonably confident that my next HbA1c will be in the pre diabetes range if not the 'normal' range.
So the advice here certainly appears to be working for me, and will probably help you too, although what works for one might not help another as we're all different , but try not to stress yourself ...!

Welcome Gillybeans ! (like the name) Mad ! 😉. One day at a time ! Go for short walks in the nice weather & try to keep off carbs. Good luck
 
Could you give us more information about how you have been managing?
What would be a typical days menu for you, for instance?

it is understandable to be scared @ this point & it would not be good if you were not concerned the important thing is to use that concern to your benefit.
The good news is things do not have to be rushed, & will settle down & you have certainly come to the right place (I dont know what I would have been like if it was not for the quality of advice received in these forums)
Diet is most definitely the key to this condition & despite NHS recommendations almost every one agrees that the only way to know what is good & what is bad in YOUR diet (not anyone else's we are all different) is to self test, if you cannot get a meter & strips on the NHS then the codefree meter from amazon is the one that is regularly recommended because it has the cheapest running costs.
 
Hi and welcome, I can understand why you feel scared but honestly, you can turn this around 🙂 help us to have a better understanding of how you are managing at the moment, what medication are you on? Do you self test?
 
Hi Gillybeans, it's tough to try & manage diabetes without help & support..... There is so much information, misinformation & conflicting information; it's hard to know where to start.

In this group we have many strategies, what works for someone may not work for another, don't be discouraged, instead share with us & lean on us for support. I think though, the common thread in our strategies is lowering carbs (not just sugars).
