Type 2
Hi I have type 2 diabetes I recently had 2 operations due to a absess I got and I was told my diabetes were poorly controlled... When I got diagnosed I think I was in denial and didn't fully understand the blood sugar levels etc
I'm now trying to get my act together and understand type 2 diabetes more
I'm on Metformin and gliclazide
Any advice with the gliclazide would be great and just wanted to say hello ❤️

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you could provide a bit more information that would be helpful. For example, how long have you been diagnosed, what have your HbA1C levels been etc. I cannot help with the gliclazide question as I am metformin and sitagliptin but others will have experience. What I found during my operations (colectomy, stoma and reversal and three liver sections, not to mention chemo) was that my blood sugars were all over the place but a lot of that was due to the operations on the liver and I had to concentrate on recovery from the procedures before worrying too much about the blood sugar levels.

Welcome @Alfiesmummy114 🙂 I hope you’re recovering well from the abscess- they can be very unpleasant. If you’d like to learn a little more about Type 2, you could look at the Learning Zone (orange tab, top of the page).

What was your last HbA1C? How much Gliclazide do you take and when? Could you give us an idea of an average day’s food for you?

Thank you I'm looking at the learning zone to see what I can learn, I'm not sure I just no it was quite high and was in hospital so they changed my medicine to 80 twice a day gliclazide
I'm trying to change my whole eating as what I was doing before wasn't helping and I'm trying to eat like I did on slimming world but cutting carbs down
Thanks

With the medication you are taking you need to be a bit careful of going too low on carbs as the gliclazide is encouraging your pancreas to produce more insulin which if you do not eat enough carbs then you could risk having too low blood glucose.
The suggested no more than 130g per day which is what the Freshwell approach is based on is usually OK but as long as you have your monitor to check if you feel wobbly. This is the link which may help you with some ideas for meals. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
