Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello all, just plucked up the courage to join this forum. I'm Kim, I'm 32 and I have been a member of Diabetes UK for a year (since I got diagnosed) but never joined the forum.

I'm a Type 2 diabetic, I haven't had much information from my local surgery other than two reviews (one shortly after diagnosis, one recently) and have been devouring all the info on this website and reading up independently; however now I feel very overwhelmed and quite frightened. An uncle of mine has recently needed a toe amputation due to diabetic complications and I don't want that to be me.

I also have PCOS and am obese. I'm following a slimming plan but progress is very slow. I joined just so I can meet and talk to others with diabetes, despite never really seeing myself as the support group 'type' whatever that means.

Hi Kim and welcome to the forum. I am a newbie too having been diagnosed recently. Lots of very helpful people here and good advice to be had. My ex has had 2 toes amputated but that was down to diabetes not been diagnosed when it should have been. I am following a low carb diet now which I hope will show an improvement in both my blood sugars and cholesterol. I would hesitate to give advice though as others here are much better qualified to do so.

Hi Kim, welcome to the forum 🙂 We are all sorts here, so I'm sure you will fit in fine! 🙂

How did your diagnosis come about? Are you on any medication for your diabetes? Please don't fall into the trap of thinking you are heading down the same path as an unfortunate relative - it's serious, but a very manageable condition, and we are all here to help reduce your fears and answer any questions you may have. So whatever is concerning or confusing you, please ask and we will do our best to clarify things and set your mind at ease 🙂

I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Hi Kim!
Welcome from a fellow newbie. I've just been diagnosed with type 2 and like you have had no real advice from my doctor. The people on here have been great, it's nice to have support from other people in the same boat 🙂

Hi Kim. Welcome to the forum.🙂

Hi Kim
Welcome aboard, hope you find it useful here, I certainly have 🙂

Thanks for all your lovely welcomes!

Northerner, it was picked up as part of a routine blood test which I get for PCOS. I'm on 500mg of Metformin, two tablets twice a day.

Hi kim

Hi and welcome Kim - Losing weight and PCOS is difficult but not impossible. Low carb/high fat is a good way to go. :D

Welcome to the forum Kim.:D

Welcome from a fellow T2 who's 16 months in.

Hi Kim and welcome to the forum 🙂 you made a good choice to join... You'll find everyone friendly, supportive and kind here. I am still a newbie to being diagnosed and joining the forum, but I am so thankful for the support and friendly answers to any questions that I have asked so far 🙂 have a good look around, there's a lot of great information on here.
All my gp gave me at diagnosis was a website address to do some research.. You are not alone, enjoy the company, and I hope you'll soon feel more settled both on here and how to help yourself manage your diabetes. It's a heck of a fast learning curve isn't it?! 😱
