Sorry, I hadn’t heard of them until this thread. Just thought it sounded amazing !

No worries Emma . I am so impatient I want to get going? Be safe today , not nice. Bev x

No. My doctor said he will refer me to the Diabetes Prevention Programme , which if I can find it again seems to b for 9 months , with loads of help, advice and councelling about eating habits . If I can find it will try and add.link on here .

Found it. Google Diabetes Prevention Programme and up it pops. It is only in certain areas, and I am lucky to b in one, so check. I am hoping to sort my eating habits and lose 30 lbs then will be hugely happy. Good luck x

It sounds similar to the MyDesmond scheme which is offered to people in other areas and requires a referral by your GP as it is only offered to those practices which subscribe to it.
If it is like the MyDesmond it is based on the standard NHS dietary advice based on the Eat Well plate which is not as low carb as many people find they may need to go if they have an actual diabetes diagnosis rather than being 'at risk' when some more modest changes might suffice.

Thanks for the info. I was told 130 grams of carbs are what I should aim for . I may have to wait months but goung to ring on Monday . Thanx Bev

If you are going for a low carb approach that is a good starting point but just reduce what you are having to that amount over a few weeks as you will be less likely to get eye of nerve issues especially if you have previously been having much more than that.

LL is saying no need to wait before reducing your carbohydrate intake - if you currently eat more than 130g a day, start reducing that now but better to do it gradually than eg halving it in one fell swoop cos that can actually cause health complications whereas with a slower reduction, that will be far less likely.

Not quite sure what u mean? Sorry
Sometimes when people reduce the amount of carbohydrates they have from what they previously were having blood glucose will drop which is obviously what you want to happen but if it goes down too quickly the body goes into 'shock' and people can get problems with nerve pain and with their vision as the environment in the eye changes and it alters to focal lenght so things can be out of focus but by reducing your carb intake more slowly it helps to stop that happening. Not everybody will experience that but some do and they wonder why their vision is all over the place.

Try to work out how much you were having by looking at the total carbs on packets, or internet search for Total Carbs FOOD X then reduce by about a third for a couple of weeks then another third until you get to where you want or need to be. Your eyes hopefully will settle down.
