Everything? What about fatty liver? In 2008 Diabetes UK supported Professor Roy Taylor's brilliant Counterpoint study. This showed prediabetes and T2D is generally due to increasing amounts of fat in the liver. The result is the liver becomes insulin resistant and HbA1c levels rise during prediabetes. Eventually, excess fat affects the pancreas and its production of insulin. T2D breaks out. That's why Professor Taylor says show me a diabetic and I will show you a fatty liver. The treatment for fatty liver is a weight loss diet. Dr David Unwin says his Norwood Surgery has a 93% success rate with prediabetics with their real food diet.
Thanks to you I have read a lot about Prof Roy Taylor and he really impressed me by explaining T2D. I finally have stopped blaming myself ( no family history at all ) for my diabetes. I am now motivated to lose the extra 10kg that I need to ( despite other medication and arthritis ) again thanks so much

Great to hear you are so motivated @snowball12, and that you’ve stopped blaming yourself - hope your efforts pay off 🙂

Diabetes is not necessarily your fault because you have no family history. I recall when I first went pre-diabetic and being quite upset when I saw my GP (since returned to higher side of normal and now pre again). I said I felt I was to blame for it as the media tended to blame the patient. He said it is not the patient's fault. He and I both felt that it is sometimes the modern diet. It is all very well people keep saying people shouldn't eat ultra processed food and shouldn't eat this, that and the other but. for many, they know no different and it is cheaper and easier due to the lifestyle.

I am retired and have always loved cooking anyway. I love reading books particularly low carb ones and getting ideas but everyone does not have the time or inclination.

Good luck with your weight loss. well done on losing what you have. A friend of mine is obese and has no problems with her blood sugars and another is underweight and diabetic.

I have done lots of research on here and in books and have no hesitation when I go for a meal in a restaurant politely asking for certain things to be left off my plate.
