I am Manny C from SW England type II Diabetes sufferer thought I would introduce Myself as this website and forums are a wealth of great information. However a more awful side efeect has manifested itself in the form of erectile dysfunction which is really worrying I have noticed since I have started taking Gliclazide over 8 months ago this problem has started occurring my other medications are Ramipril,Metformin,Simvastatin and Lansaprazole.I have kept a diary and I am pretty certain as the Gliclazide has started to work itself into My system that could be the cause I am desperate for a solution but Before I resort to any quick fixes(Please don't laugh -))of the blue pill type I would appreciate any advice from My fellow forum contributors.Thankyou in advance and thankyou to the Moderators for allowing Me to join.

Welcome.
I don't have the problem as am not male. I not sure it solely being a side effect of Gliclazide, as it is one of problems that occur in male Diabetics.

Thankyou for the kind welcome there is a ton of info out there but this forum is a great place to receive well researched advice based on similar medical issues.

Welcome Manny, another female here, so am of no help, but wish you luck and a warm hello 🙂

Hello Manny. 🙂 I've heard about this problem. Years ago my friend Doreen wanted more children but her hubby had D and the meds prevented further children. Such a shame. I don't know what the answer is but I hope you find one.

My husband can't raise an err, smile since his prostate cancer treatment - but he's not dead and vacuum pumps work, as do the jabs as does Viagra - I know all three work because of 5 of us girls who were all at senior school together and still mates 50 years later - 4 of the husbands have had the op and have the problem, with differing preferred solutions.

Do NOT be scared to ask Mannu - it's nothing to be ashamed about - and as for the solutions - well the whole of life is a voyage of discovery - we didn't think we had any more sexual discoveries to make at our age really (well none we particularly felt we wanted to, anyway!) but this is another one we've done together - and if you don't or can't LAUGH about sex and the sex act - you are just doing it wrong.

So just bite the bullet and get on with it - and ENJOY !

I was starting to suffer from such problems - with so many meds it could be any one or combination of two or more of them. it's never good to be taking too many meds. I was taking 5 tablets a day - 2x 1000mg Metformin, simvastatin, linoprazole (for hiatus hernia) and lisinopril (for BP). Since I've been on the LCHF diet the last 8 months (and lost 20kg), I've been able to give up most of the meds - the hiatus hernia went away, my cholesterol numbers are fine without the statin and I've halved the dosage of the metformin and BP meds (and hoping to stop the BP meds as I get more fit). I've been exercising regularly too and have the resting heart rate of an athlete, which is nice.

I've no idea which of the things I've done has helped, and to complicate matters I've now realised I was probably somewhat depressed and now I'm not, but any road up, something - physical or psychological - has helped. Oh yes. That and I now have the body of a Roman god (not the debauched one either) so having to fight women off with a stick (well, except my Mrs), and my knees can stand the pace once more.

It's been relatively easy to switch diets, and I've not felt as alive or healthy for a long time, since before I got diagnosed I think. Definitely worth a try.

I reckon it's the losing weight. I think it's the answer to most problems. 🙂

I especially believe this after watching that BBC 'Obesity - the Post Mortem' documentary - it was quite enlightening, (if a bit full-on) and I was glad I was watching it from the successful side of a diet, or it would have been very troubling: High blood pressure, pulmonary oedema, heart failure, fatty liver, kidney problems etc, all due to the obesity.

However, I did see immediate improvements that can't be just down to weight loss within a week or so of starting the LCHF diet, including more energy and less lethargy.

That programme was scary. That lady was the same shape as me, the same age as me, had the same problems as me - I've recorded it to watch over again when I feel I need a jolt. 😱
