Hi everyone. My little girl was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on the 1st Jan this year which was a big shock and completely out of the blue.

My husband and I do all we can to keep our little one happy and healthy but it can be a real challenge at times. Can't imagine what my little girl must be going through physically and emotionally, she handles the injections and blood checks really well most of the time and I'm so proud of her.

After nearly 5 months of learning about diabetes there still seems to be new things to learn! It would be good to hear from other parents in a similar situation or anyone who can offer any advice or tips.
 
Hi Emma, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your little one's diagnosis :( What insulin is she on? It's good to hear she is handling things well 🙂

I'm not a parent - I was diagnosed aged 49, so can't offer any advice on that front, but hopefully some of our parents will be along to help soon. If you are on Facebook, then the group 'Parents of Children With Type 1 Diabetes In The UK' has some very good help and support from lots of other parents. Also, I would highly recommend getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas, which is an excellent reference and guide covering all aspects of living with Type 1 (whatever your age) 🙂

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, or let us know of any concerns - many of our members were diagnosed as children and some have lived with it for 50 years or more, so there is a lot of experience to draw on! 🙂
 
Hello Emma. Sorry to here about your little one. I was diagnosed at 3r old too. But in 1966, a while ago. I know you will be taking it all in but you are right you learn every day Good luck 🙂
 
Hiya, of course there are new things to learn all the while - this is a marathon, not a sprint!

46 years in August, and I'm still learning so don't EVER think you need to know everything for the simple reason there isn't a human being in the world yet who does.
 
Hi Emma and welcome to the forum. You will find lots of friendly knowledgeable people here. Sorry to hear of your little girl's diagnosis but she seems to be doing well coping with it. It must be hard for you, there is so much to learn.

Have a good look around the different sections for ideas and tips, and if you have any questions just ask.

Yes always something new to learn with this game. Or relearn when the rules change, as they seem to do at the drop of a hat. Not the ‘official’ rules of course, those often have little to do with your own precise diabetes quirks, just that the goalposts keep shifting in terms of how our bodies react to things and we have to chase after them as best we can. 🙂

Post any questions you have in the parents section (or general for wider questions) and the experienced folks here will chip in.

Welcome to the forum, I’m new here too and have found everyone so lovely and welcoming <3

My 2 year old little girl was diagnosed with type 1 nearly 2 weeks ago, I am still very much riding the emotional rollercoaster of the early days, and have struggled to come to terms with everything, like you say with a toddler it is a challenge but obviously you strive to do everything you can to make it as stable as it can be, I am still very much learning myself.
