Type 2
Being diagnosed 3 weeks ago after spending most of Jan, Feb asleep (20 hrs s day) was a welcome relief as I've had test after test for the reasons behind my tiredness & lack of interest in anything..
Still getting used to different diet, ie no sugar but not really understanding all the figures bounding around.. I was told my blood test result was 52! But there seems to be very little numbers like this are mentioned on here only %s!
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated

Welcome @Chrisc9492 🙂 Your 52 will probably be an HbA1C result. The finger prick tests on a blood glucose meter are different and will be what you might be seeing around the forum eg my result this morning was 5.8.

That's fantastic thank you, made an awful lot of sence..
I have chronic pancreatitis also which has complicated my diabetes diagnosis & causing me on going struggles..
Thanks again...Chris

Welcome to the forum @Chrisc9492

Sorry about the numbers confusion! There was a thread started this evening about that very thing, and how difficult it it for those newly diagnosed to get their heads around all the terminology.

Here are a few more tidbits for you.

Your 52 is most likely an HbA1c result

Where 48 gets you a diagnosis with diabetes - so you are not very far over the edge.

Another thing you have mentioned is Chronic Pancreatitis, which may suggest your diagnosis should more properly be Type 3c - which is still slightly unknown among healthcare professionals!

Hi!

Unfortunately Chris, it ain't only about sugar itself but about the overall carbohydrate content of the food we eat, that none of our bodies can easily cope with when we have diabetes. Sugar is the first thing to try and minimise since sugar contains very nearly 100% carbohydrate and very little else. But if you're fonder of eg bread or potatoes (in any form} than sugar, you might start by cutting down the amount of the and pasta or rice as well as gradually cutting down on sugar. Of course if your normal diet contains plenty of cake, or sweet biscuits cutting down on the amount of that/them reduces carb via two ingredients of both - flour is high carb as well as sugar.

You're better off actually by not cutting down drastically on anything, do it a more gradually and see how much good reducing them, does to your blood glucose, so you can assess what you might need to do next.

Hi Chris can I ask what your chronic pancreatitis complications were? I’m the same as you. They’ve told me I’m type 3 but I’ve also got severe reactive hypoglycemia so my high sugars don’t stay long as I go really high and then within 45 mins I’m having a bad Hypo. Thanks
