Type 2
Have been trying to control type 2 with diet and exercise for around 15 years but finally having to resort to Metformin 3 weeks ago . Have had awful upset stomach so Doctor changed me to Slow Release. Starting them tomorrow so fingers crossed. Has anyone had similar experience? Hoping I will be able to get back to normal soon.

Hi, have been on SR Metformin for 2 years. At first a few issues with upset stomach, but not all the time. But it soon calmed down and so far so good.

Hi @Promwalker, and welcome to the forum. I had problems with ordinary metformin but none at all with the slow release. So, fingers crossed, hope you get the same result.

Hi and welcome.

What dietary changes did you make to control your diabetes?
The reason I ask is that NHS advice is often not helpful in this respect because they advise low fat and complex carbs like wholemeal bread/pasta etc, when many of us find that dramatically reducing or avoiding all carbohydrate rich foods and eating more fat is a much more effective and sustainable and enjoyable way to manage our diabetes.

I hope you find the Slow Release Metformin easier on your digestive system but if you haven't tried low carb higher fat eating and want to see if it will allow you to get better control of your diabetes and possibly come off the medication, we are happy to point you in the right direction.

Hope the slow release suits you well @Promwalker

Have you been advised to moderate your carb intake to help your metformin along? (all carbs, not just sugars raise BG)
