Tbh in your situation (given that you can't go completely low carb), I'd just go for smaller portions rather than worrying about cutting everything out. Pick meals which have small portions of boiled or baked potatoes or small portions of brown rice rather than ones which have large amounts of mashed potato or white pasta. Go for meals where you can see what you're eating - a ready meal which is meat, 2 veg, and boiled potatoes, or a curry with rice as a side dish, or something like that, where you can if necessary leave some of the potatoes/rice, is going to be a lot better than something like lasagne or cottage pie, which is all mixed up together and mostly carbs. Cauliflower cheese, or something like fish in parsley sauce would be good options too.I m just struggling for what to do instead of potato/rice/pasta at the moment.

Thanks Jodee,
I am scared as I am on my own and worry about being really ill and alone, but I am going to start it tomorrow and give it a try x
It won't make you so ill you can't pick up a phone Jane, some do have problems but not everyone, many don't have problems with it at all, in fact its helpful bringing down the blood glucose levels. So try it you may be just fine on it 🙂

Really you are likely to be overly concerned about metformin.
Agree with Jodee. The medics are not stupid and they prescribe metformin because for a majority people it brings the blood glucose down without any debilitating side effects. Chances are you will be in that group but in any case, if it does upset you, its pretty obvious what is going on and stopping taking it sorts things out. Just seen that you have a bit of upset. All being well the upset will go away as your body gets used to it. If it really does get worse, then stop taking it and tell your doctor. Jodee is right, it will be a breeze.
I was one of the unlucky ones where it comes to metformin - it tried to turn me inside out - and the statin was horrendous as well.
Luckily I do not require either medication to be pretty much normal - I just stick to low carb eating and am absolutely fine - better than I have felt for years.
