Hi Julia, welcome to the group

Hello Julia, and welcome to the club nobody wanted to join!

Hi everyone I'm a newbie I was diagnosed last year November 26th type 1 I don't like it very much
Hi Julia, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis, how did it come about? It's very early days for you and there really is a lot to take in - so much information to absorb in such a short space of time. But try not to become overwhelmed by it all, just follow the advice of your healthcare team and ask lots and lots of questions whenever something confuses you or worries you. What insulin are you on?

One thing I would highly recommend is to get a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas. What ever your age it is the best book available about living with Type 1 and is an essential reference 🙂

Let us know if we can help you with anything. It will get easier, honest! 🙂

Hi Julia and welcome to the forum

Welcome from a T2.

Welcome aboard. You are at the beginning of a very steep learning curve, but it does get easier.... trust me I have diabetes too!

Hi Julia and welcome

I share your pain! I'm ten years on and it does get easier, sometimes a bit of a rollercoaster but certainly a manageable way of life.

I remember the shock of diagnosis and not understanding at all what I could or couldn't eat. The DAFNE course helped enormously.

I wish I had done more to access support but nothing was offered to me at the time. I also didn't take a single day off work! My advice would be to work out what you need and ask for it. Sounds simple but I know it isn't.

Hi Julia, welcome to the forum. As others have said it is very early days for you at present, and it is a very steep learning curve. However this forum is full of people who are very happy to help you.

Just ask questions as they come to you, and no question is silly. There are a lot of excellent resources available to you and the book that Northerner mentioned is very useful and easy to use. I am still referring back to it and I am nearly nine years into this.

If you are able to get a place on Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating (DAFNE) course it is incredibly useful and enables you to approach the self management of our condition more flexibly. It would be worth asking your consultant/ Diabetes Specilalist Nurse what is available near you.

Lots to learn very quickly, but it definitely gets easier.
