Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I'm new to this forum and just looking for support! I'm type 2 and on soo many tablets I rattle when I jump!!! I am overweight but I do keep active, a mixture of kick boxing, my main discipline karate (I'm one belt short of my black belt!) I train with the bo staff, nunchucks and katana and a bit of jui jitsu thrown in for good measure! But I'm increasingly frustrated with my blood sugars ... I can't get them down!!! I've cut out sugar, read labels for hidden ... I don't know what else to do! I'm currently 13.1! Sorry to rant! I'm at my wits end!

Hi Sandra#kungfupanda, welcome to the forum 🙂 What medication are you on for your diabetes? Have you been diagnosed long? You need to bear (panda - get it? 😉) in mind that it is ALL carbohydrates you need to be wary of, not just sugars. So bread, pasta, rice, potatoes as well as wheat or pastry products will also raise your blood sugar levels. I'd suggest starting a food diary, recording the amount (in grams) of all the carbs in everything you eat and drink. This will give you a good idea of your actual intake, and you can then start looking for ways you might substitute items for more diabetes-friendly ones. When are you testing, are you doing it before and after meals to try and see how much your meals raise your levels by?

It doesn't sound like you need much persuasion to get active - you tired me out with your description! 🙂

Please let us know if there is any way we can help 🙂

Hi Sandra, welcome to the forum! 🙂 We're a friendly and helpful bunch here, as you will know if you have a look through the various threads.

Love the nick; Kung Fu Panda is a truly classic movie, and opinions are divided as to whether it's an affectionate parody of the wuxia genre, or a straight-up wuxia movie which happens to have anthropomorphic animals as characters.

Welcome & keep at it ! 😉 You sound like a positive person to me 🙂

when is best

When is best to take your sugars? I'm on 500mg metaformin x2 x2 and glickizide x2 x2, I usually eat alot of soup, I can't eat alot before training ( I train up to 4 evenings a week) believe me when I say chicken salad isn't pleasant when it reappears! Lol! My work schedule ,family commitments and training means I only get time to eat twice a day, not in anyway ideal ! I try to snack but can never seem to find anything thats remotely healthy when im out and about ! So if anyone has any ideas for healthy grab and goes .... cheers :D
