Hi🙂
I'm a newly diagnosed type 1, following a hospital admission suffering a DKA. It was a huge shock, to say the least 😱.
So here I am trying to learn all about this confounded condition, I've looked on various websites, some are confusing so I've joined here as I think the best way to learn is from others, plus I don't know anyone else with this condition.
I know mainly younger people get this, trust me to be different 🙄.
I'll be trawling the boards for info, recipes and to have a chat in general 🙂
Hi Lucy, I was diagnosed approx. 5 years ago in my early 50s. Yes, it is quite a shock to start with but I can assure you that slowly you will learn how to cope. I had nobody to speak to re. my (late) diabetes and did find it very hard. However, life becomes easier along the way. Make sure you get knowledge re. low GI food etc. which will help you to regulate your B sugar. I walk a lot and eat as healthy as possible which will help you in the long run. Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice marsbar, I'll make sure I check regularly throughout the night and have a few cartons of orange juice with me. I'm not looking forward to the 4am wall:confused:
I'll be trying my hardest to try and control it 😉

Hi Lucy

Bit of a late hello from me. I'm T2...so there are people here far better qualified to give you advice and guidance. However, if you ever fancy a carb free drink and a chat, please call in to the Banting and Best (under Off The Subject) where you can usually find someone who'll buy you a drink. Hope to see you there.

In the meantime, I hope things are going well for you.

How are you doing now Lucy?
I hope that things are beginning to make more sense.

Hi, I'm getting there thank you. It's a pain in the rear having to calculate all the carbs I eat, but know it's the best way to keep my levels as stable as possible.
thanks for all the replies 🙂

Also, I asked my nurse about a pump, but she said we have to try all other avenues before they consider it.

It is a bit of a pain. I bought some cup measures for items I eat frequently, weigh them then i know the amount for the future.
