Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi,
Not been on any forums before but it will be nice to discuss things about diabetes with other individuals with this condition. I don’t like saying we suffer from diabetes as i think the word suffer gives out negative vibes and doesn’t show how we live with it not suffer from it. Had T1 for over 40yrs and gone through some bad times but hopefully am now over the worst of it, I’m now enjoying my life and family and getting on with my pump and new sensor

Hi and welcome. We can find positivity somewhere, can't we. For me it is having a healthier lifestyle of better food and more exercise, neither of which are bad. We can let diabetes rule us, or we can do our best to control it. I know we are different types, but we still walk the pathway together, in our own way - as does everyone else.
I am glad you are finding life better for you after all the years, onwards and upwards. I'm still new to this, but have gained so much knowledge from here - it is a great site and I'd have been lost without it and the wonderful people I've met. 🙂

Welcome @Vixen69
Like you, I don't feel I suffer from diabetes. It is part of who I am but doesn't stop me doing what I want.
I believe I am lucky as I know that it can have a bigger impact on some people's lives and requires mental strength to maintain a positive outlook at times.
Having the tech (pump and CGM) has certainly helped me - I hope it continues to help you too.

Hi and welcome from me too.

Great to have your extensive experience added to the forum.

There have been some considerable positives from my diagnosis. I was diagnosed later in life (just 3 years ago) and I think that alone may be a positive, but also lost weight, feel fitter and healthier than I have for a long time and it has probably added 10 years to my life rather than diminishing it, so whilst it is frustrating and a bit of a mental drain at times, I too don't consider that I suffer from it, I just live with it and manage it as best I can and the modern technology certainly helps enormously with that, certainly compared to how things were when you were first diagnosed I imagine.

Which pump and sensor do you have and which insulin?
I am still on MDI (Levemir and Fiasp) and happy with that combined with Libre 1 which is brilliant for me.

Look forward to getting to know you better and perhaps learning from your experiences.

Hi Vixen - I'm with you! Always told people I don't suffer with it - you might, having to suffer me, but I can't be the judge of that!

Thanks for replying, still learning forums as this is first day, how do you put the personal information on this, like date of diagnosis, weight, medication etc: look forward to your reply

i use medtronic 780g pump and guardian 4 sensor, it’s awesome and much better than the 3. Insulin i use is Humalog

Started on Actrapid and Monotard U40, in 1981, had to work out how much to give as not like U100 where 1 unit is 1 unit and i found it really hard to understand when it all changed over it’s so simple too lots of things have changed over the years especially how insulin is delivered, blood testing and diet, had to weigh all my food when a kid, and no sweet stuff at all, nightmare when you’re a kid

Great opening post, had type 1 for 40 years myself so travelled same road.
Been a motorway at times and then a gravelly footpath, but it’s what’s made me, me. Hope you had it easier than i did

Hi and welcome, I'm a late starter - just over 2 yrs now.
If you click your personal button on the top line, that's the pink circle with the letter V at centre right and select Signature from the menu - then you can fill in the box with whatever you want to share on a semi-permanent basis. There are some formatting choices on the top menu of that box and when you save it you will see the final output. If you want to amend something or at a later date add more, just go back in and repeat the process. I found my first effort didn't look the same in the Signature box as the text that appeared on my posts so had 2 or 3 goes to get it the way I wanted it to look. Any saved changes show on previous posts, as well as future ones.

Have a great day.

Not easier my friend, its been bumpy road at times.

More at peace with condition than was in younger years where sort of resented it, bittterly at times & took less care of myself as a result, think getting tech like pump & libre has helped immensely plus feeling more relaxed about life in general.

Hello and welcome @Vixen69 glad you’ve joined us 🙂

Good to hear things have settled down for you & the 780g with Guardian 4 sensors are working well for you.

I’m another with 40+ years under my belt, It was good to see the back of U40 insulin - that was an added level of diabetes juggling!

Welcome to the forum from another 780G user. I am about to switch from the G3 to G4 sensor and looking forward to far fewer calibrations.
Any other differences that you have found.

Those insulins remember well, was moved on them myself for while but started on pork insulin at start, wonder why if these two were around at time?

Glad to have you here @Vixen69 🙂

Feel free to share as much or as little as you like - we have centuries of lived diabetes experience to bounce off, and we are all just muddling through along our own diabetes journeys. Or just simply vent or let off steam about any frustrations you are experiencing at the moment 🙂
