What everyone else said. Diagnosed in Nov 21 but now working for remission as have lost over 10kg and am aiming for another 10. I feel so much better - no more thirst at night. Less tired. I stacked 10kg of flourbags and baking stuff together to see how heavy it was.... no longer on me thank goodness.

these forum will see you right - they have helped me so much. I did my weight loss on the Newcastle diet. I use myfitnesspal to measure my food intake.

Steak and pork are fine in moderation, with green veg. I now eat Konjak 'slim' pasta with pasta topping and the Konjak is 18 calories, fibre and no carbs x

Best of luck.

The kebab should have been fine - just not in bread.
As a type two I eat protein and fat all the time, I make curry and eat it with chopped cauliflower rather than rice. Stews, casseroles, roasts and fries all seem fine - and when bringing up the children and eating low carb I never had any problems with 'picky eaters' visiting after school - in fact their eyes usually lit up when they saw the food.
In the last 5 years since diagnosis I have had to remake or renew a lot of my clothes as I have changed from ( ) to more of a ) ( but I was almost spherical after being pushed to eat a high carb diet - so 'healthy' with all the wholegrain.....

Hi @Deb9 I don't know where you got the idea the 'slim' foods are good or that meat is bad for diabetics, but neither is 100% true, in fact its nearly 100% the opposite! Meat and most traditional fats are actually good for diabetics. So no more cutting the fat off your meat, no restrictions on eggs and chees (except if you want to cut calories, but many of us lose stones in weight without cutting calories - just cutting down on carbohydrates).

Most 'slim' low fat and low 'added sugar' products are higher in carbohydrates than the original product, so actually worse for diabetics. I never eat them now. I lost just over 17% of my weight in in 5 months without reducing calories at all. I just bought a Blood Glucose meter and kept a food diary to ensure that my meals were not spiking my Blood Glucose. Eating real home prepared simple traditional food (think granny or great granny) that are in carbohydrates did the trick, in fact my finger prick Blood Glucose tests were back in the normal range within 2 weeks (but they weren't huge to start with in my case).
