Hi
Hope you all well and enjoying the weather and coping
Just wanted to check in , as have had some lovely messages from people on here
The op , Whipple , seems to have gone well, surgeon was very pleased
They removed half of pancreas , duodenum, some bowel and some stomach , gall bladder was removed some years ago , he also whipped out appendix for good measure
Bloody amazing these guys and everyone at the Royal Surrey were fantastic
Major op , but have managed to escape home after a week, feeling very sore and battered , but resting and moving so onwards and upwards
For those of you interested in medical matters its worth reading about whipple/pppd op , its remarkable, i have been replumbed and rebuilt
Will see consultant in a couple of weeks for results and way forward, will be interesting to see how effects diabetes as can already seen numbers being controlled much better
Because they have removed the part that produces the enzymes and left the part tyat produces insulin there is chance it might kick in and start working
Its fantastic how your body works and incredible

Great to hear Sam, thank you for te update 🙂 I hope your recovery goes well. I totally agree with you, the human body is remarkably resilient, let's hope you can get away with not needing insulin 🙂

Belated Happy birthday for yesterday too, I hope you were able to enjoy your special day 🙂

Thanks for the update, have been thinking about you. I had the distal which removes body and tail and produces the insulin cells and I didn’t even become diabetic for three years and didn’t need insulin until four years after that! So there’s a good chance you’ll be fine. Good luck for your recovery, don’t rush it and let everyone run after you. 🙂

Great news Sam been thinking of you, keep in touch.xxx

That is great news. It is good to hear that you are back home already, there is nothing like your own bed and surroundings providing you have the help you may need.
You take care ok.

Good to hear that things went so well Sam.

Hi Sam, so pleased to hear all went well and that you had such good treatment, I hope your recovery is speedy and straightforward. Take good care of yourself xx

Thank you , so lovely to have found people who have been through same/similar

I am waiting for results , they say markers show probably cancer
Pet scan showed no other hotspots
Surgeon said they thought had got mass and lympnodes are clear , so this all sounds good
There was s a chance that this was benigne

Did you get a cancer diagnosis ?
Did you have to have chemo ?

Feeling rough today everything hurts and clips are tightening, out on Friday cant wait
I know to take one day at a time and not to be hard on myself , and feel incredibly lucky that has been found was able to have op

My tumour, thankfully, turned out to be pre cancerous. I didn’t need any chemo etc. I spent three weeks in hospital and it took almost that long to get the results. TBF I felt so ill I didn’t even think about it. I also had my spleen removed “ just in case”. Like you I’m just glad they were able to operate and the diabetes is the lesser of two evils and 12 years on I’m still here to tell the tale. I won’t lie, it’s a long recovery but it’s pretty major surgery. Some days you will feel well, others you will just want to stay in bed all day. I had 5 months off work and went back on a phased return. Have they given you Creon and explained the consequences of not having any or very few digestive enzymes? Fingers crossed for good results and that you feel better with the clips removed. Elaine.

Hi everyone
Thanks Eggyg for the reply , am so glad you doing well
I had results the other day , tumour was cancerous , but they happy with op and my recovery
They are pretty sure they got it all and the effected blood vessels, did not appear to be in lymph nodes and tyey got a clear circle of healthy tissue as well
Have got the ok to go on our annual fishing holiday , I wont be fishing but its a lovely place where I can relax and meet up with some great friends
I have hired a mobilty scooter so I can get about without knackering myself out
When we get back going to see oncologist and discuss chemo as they want to “ hit it hard “ to clean up and as a preventative measure , not looking forward to that
My bloods are doing better , its a bit tricky juggling sugar levels , nutrition and abilty to eat ,but am getting there

Once again , thank you everyone for the support and kindness you have shown

Everything sounds hopeful. Enjoy your break, just relax and try not to think about things too much, easier said then done I know. The scooter sounds like a great idea. As for the eating side of it, I found little and often and bland food. I couldn’t face anything too strong, even the smell of some food was too much for me. I think your BG levels are the least of your problems at the moment, concentrate on recovering from the op first then get stuck in. Take care. Elaine.
