Hi, I just wanted to say hello to everyone on here. I had really bad pancreatitis in 2008 and 2009. I was in hospital in 2009 for 8 weeks due to pancreatitis. I was told by the Consultant at the time I might end up being diabetic because of the illness and he was correct 5 years later I was diagnosed as being diabetic. I have struggled with it ever since. I am on insulin and my diabetes is out of control, I'm really struggling to keep my blood sugars stable. I have today spoken to the specialist diabetic team at Lincoln County Hospital and they want me to do a list of my blood sugar readings, insulin doses, food intake etc. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site to get a template from or a list I can print off to fill in that I can send to them in a couple of weeks? Any info or help would be very much appreciated. Kind regards, Matt.

Welcome @Mutley101 🙂 I’m wondering if you’re actually a Type 3c if your diabetes came from pancreas damage? We have quite a few 3c people here, including @eggyg

Which insulin or insulins are you on @Mutley101 ? - I ask because doctors sometimes treat people with type 3c as if they have type 2 when they really need to be treated as if they have type 1, so it may be that you're struggling to control your diabetes because your insulin isn't really suitable for your needs.
You probably wouldn't be able to get one in time to send off within a couple of weeks, but for future reference if you want to keep written records, if your blood glucose meter is an Abbott one you can register it with them and then ask them to send you free monitoring diaries in which you can fill in your readings and insulin doses (they are a bit small for using as a complete food diary as well, but there is a space for notes).

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did wonder myself if I was type 3c as I did quite a bit of research online a year or 2 ago. I did ask my doctor some time ago now if they could refer me back to the specialists as I thought I might be type 3c, he said he would but it never happened! TBH I had quite a lot of problems getting diagnosed in the first place it took the doctors over 16 months to actually tell me I was diabetic and I was going to the doctors with symptoms of diabetes every other week, (dry mouth, frequent bathroom visits, feeling dizzy and light-headed, feeling sick at times etc). I collapsed at work one day and I couldn't get up off the floor. I had to ring my Dad and he came and rescued me! Anyhoot my overall experience of being diabetic in relation to my care plan has been very poor indeed, the only people who seem to be looking out for me are the doctors and nurses at my doctor's surgery. I'm feeling very isolated and ignored and not listened to by everyone else, that said I do realise we are in the middle of a pandemic and that all NHS staff are super busy trying to look after everyone in relation to that but other people are also ill. Before I forget I am on Creon, quite a high dose tbh, I have to take 100,000 when I have a larger meal and at least 25,000 when I have a small portion or snack. I think personally my food doesn't digest properly and I think it might be absorbing further down my gut which is why my blood sugars are getting higher 2 to 3 hours later even when I haven't eaten anything else. Hopefully, I will get seen by the specialist diabetic nurses soon. The diabetic nurse at the surgery thinks I am on the wrong insulin and I agree but she can't change it, apparently, only the specialist can so I'll have to wait and see. Regards, Mutley101.

I too have suffered with pancreatis and am now type 3c diabetic but I get treated as type 1 I am also on creon the same does as you 100,000 at the start of a meal but I also have to take 50,000 half way through a meal or snack do you take creon half way through your meal as well.
I have noticed if I don't take creon half way through I don't seem to digest the meal properly just a thought

That sounds difficult for you @Mutley101 Hopefully it’s a positive sign that the hospital team have asked you to keep these records. Perhaps that will lead to a change of insulin for you? What insulin(s) are you currently taking?
