Hi everyone, I look forward to getting to know you more.
I was diagnosed in September with hba1c of 92mmol. I was prescribed 2000mg metformin slow release. My cholesterol was high, and showing signs of non alcohol fatty liver disease. I had gestational diabetes 14 years ago, so it wasn't a total surprise, but that phone call is always a shock.
Right from the start I read up on type 2 from the website, and decided that I wanted to eat low carb to get my numbers down as fast as possible. I needed to start exercising - from being very sedentary and to lose weight. So far I've lost 12.4 kg (2 st), another 25kg (3.9 st) to go and I go to the gym 3 times a week to do aqua fit and Pilates.
Hba1c was redone at the beginning of December, 3 months after diagnosis and it is now 41mmol. Cholesterol is back into the normal range and my liver is recovering.
Now the hard work starts, I am reducing medication to 1000mg metformin a day with the aim of being medication free by April... I also need to lose that 25kg and look forward to being more active in the new year.
