Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
My name is Esther and I'm completely new to this forum but not to Diabetes. I've had Type 1 for 30 years and although know a fair bit I'm loving how much more I'm learning from you all on this forum! I was the only one in my area growing up with Diabetes so not really much opportunity to talk with others about it back then... Hopefully now I can make up for lost time?!! 🙂

Welcome welcome aboard Esther, hope you find it useful, I certainly have 🙂 As a "weirdo" diagnosed with type 1 at 40 I found this forum invaluable not only for information and advice but also a sense of belonging. I don't think it matters what age you're diagnosed at, the sense of being different is always there and it's so nice to feel normal here.

Hello Esther, welcome to the forum. I'm another late developer, at 52, we are certainly an oddly assorted bunch on here!

Hi esther and welcome to forum. Inagree with kookuecat about the sense of belonging.

Hello and welcome Esther 🙂

This forum is a great place, wall to wall with people who 'get' diabetes and know the many challenges it can throw at you. I hope it will help you make up for lost time! 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum Esther :D

Hi Esther and welcome to the forum.

My name is Esther and I'm completely new to this forum but not to Diabetes. I've had Type 1 for 30 years and although know a fair bit I'm loving how much more I'm learning from you all on this forum! Hi Esther, welcome to the forum 🙂 You may be interested to know that the forum was originally established by a lady who had been diagnosed for over 30 years, but had never met another Type 1! We are a very diverse bunch of people, with very diverse challenges presented by this condition which affects us all in one way or another 🙂 Often, that diversity can be really helpful when you come across someone voicing a similar concern or experience to ones you have had yourself, but no healthcare professional has been able to provide a solution for - and that happens very frequently! I hope you enjoy using the forum, I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

LOL Esther - I'd been T1 for over 30 years when I started with forums - mainly because I had a problem that nobody in the NHS seemed to acknowledge - to the extent that I thought I must be going bonkers to even have the prob in the first place. Within two hours - I had an explanation of some of the possible reasons - all of which sounded sensible - and one of them fitted. Then I got loads of suggestions on how to tackle it - and the most annoying thing was - once I was able to go back to the NHS and actually DEFINE the prob - some of them helped me then. Pity they couldn't have diagnosed it in the first place.

I always tell others - not only God, but the NHS too - helps those who help themselves!

I still seem to manage to learn something new that I didn't know about diabetes, nearly every day. Some of it's irrelevant (eg the 'cure' that we've been promised 'will be available within the next 10 years' since before we were even diagnosed ROFLMAO ) but it's all interesting, nevertheless !

Welcome to the forum Esther. I only joined the forum a few months ago although like you I've been diabetic a fair while. I'd never bothered with forums before and lived in my own little diabetic bubble but was searching for info on CGM's. I've found there's lots of friendly support and advice both given and received on here. 🙂

Hi Esther, and welcome to the forum!
I find this place invaluable, and I agree with the sense of belonging here 🙂

Welcome to the forum, glad you found us! A great place to talk to people who get it.

Hello Esther and welcome to the forum. As already said you'll get lots of info on here and also probably be able to share some of your years of experience with us all too 🙂
