Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I'm new to this forum and to Diabetes 2.

I found out I had diabetes about 12 months ago. I have regular visits to the Endocrinology dept. of my local NHS trust.

I have two auto-immune diseases. Addison's and Hashimoto's. These have effects on blood sugar or rather effects on liver function and therefore Glucose levels.

I was tested for diabetes as part of the many blood tests I am subjected to every 6 months.
This diagnosis hit me hard. It can be a struggle some days to keep the Addison's under control with the added "fun" of diabetes.
I am managing the diabetes by diet and compared to what some of you have to put up with I am hardly a Diabetic.
The one thing that has surprised me with diabetes is the effect on mood. I vary greatly and rapidly depending on Blood Glucose.

Enough of me!
I hope this forum and the good people on here will help to point me in the right direction.

Hi gd485, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis on top of your other conditions :( We have other members with Addisons and diabetes, so you are not alone 🙂 Fluctuating blood sugar levels certainly affect mood and general feelings of well-being, trying to keep things as steady as possible is important, as it is the swings from low to high and back again that cause the most havoc!

Please let us know if you have any questions 🙂 There are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here who will be more than happy to help out 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm too new to be of much help to anyone. Plenty of very knowledgeable folks though.

Thanks Lynn and Northerner for the welcome. I look forward to bending someones ear with a few questions.

Welcome gd484, hope you find the forum useful. I too was very surprised the effect blood sugar has on mood. I'm generally a very chipper person, very rarely get snippy or snappy, but i get mildly manic when my blood sugar is low and very grumpy when it goes high. It's very odd not having control over mood in that way. I'm very controlled in general, emotionally, I try not to take things out on other people. My Dad was type 2 and the biggest thing we all noticed was that it seemed to change his whole personality until his blood sugar was stabilised. Our amazing bodies eh? Such finely tuned machines that one thing impacts everything else. You should find your mood stabilises quite a lot when your blood sugar becomes more stable. Also don't underestimate the impact of diagnosis, that too can have quite the impact, and it takes a while for some of us to work through all that. Anyway I'm rambling (happens a lot!), so I'll be quiet now 🙂

I too get very grumpy when my BG goes high, and when it's low, I get a bit snappy, but once it's corrected I get over emotional and a banging headache.
My poor husband is a saint putting up with me!

Hi and welcome to the forum. You have definately come to the right place for help and advice.
