Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Just joined but have been diagnosed since 2005 with type 2 diabetes, I have been managing it well I think? buying last two weeks my glucose readings have been over 10 and on Monday I was 13.4, I did have a Chinese meal the night before with a sweet plum sauce and my previous high readings have been after Indian food, just wondering if there is a connection with them maybe being too rich, my son has an app on his phone that gives him his test results but I can't find the site, I am waiting for my last results that were taken on Friday but I would like to get them sent to my phone does my doctor need to give me a code of something to access this, thanks for any info.

Foods high in sugar or starch, the carbohydrates, will cause elevated blood glucose for a type 2.
I can just about manage a fish shop fish these days, but I've not eaten Chinese or Indian take aways for a long time now.

Are you in England? I’m in England and use the NHS app to get my test results. If you’re not in England it might be a different system. Check your GP website to see if there’s instructions on how to get access.

I was mostly OK with takeaway Indian I had at the weekend (over a few meals as I figured it was worth ordering an extra curry to get free delivery....). I didn't have any rice or naan bread for the first experimenting with it though, I ate creamy chicken curries with salad or mattar paneer (chickpeas and cheese!) to try not to have too many carbs

Welcome to the forum @Mortonblue

While the sweet plum sauce probably didn’t help, I suspect that a more significant challenge for your metabolism from the Chinese meal would have been the likely portion size of rice, plus any batter or sauce thickeners. While there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will have cut back on since your diagnosis, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits.

I can only manage a fraction of a Chinese takeaway portion of rice or noodles without my BG levels going ballistic!

Sometimes people’s capacity to manage carbohydrates can change over time with diabetes, and you may find that you now need to aim for smaller portions of the carbohydrates parts of your meals to help your metabolism successfully absorb the food.

As @Lucyr says, the NHS app should be able to give you access to test results from your GP surgery, and you should be able to order repeat prescriptions directly from it too.

Some surgeries may still be using the ‘Patient Access’ app, but I think many are now using the NHS app as a preference.

Hi all thanks for replies, I'm in Scotland and have found the app, it is
"My diabetes my way" so I will be registering in next few days but don't know if I have to register with my panel as well. I'm 72 and stay in Greenock 25 miles from Glasgow, food wise I try to be careful and not overindulge I also try to get an hour's walk in everyday when it's dry and get out on my bike in summer, my daughter, grandson and myself follow our local football team home and away, I was an marine engineer but retired seven years ago.
