I am regularly stuggling with my fasting blood sugars the are between 11.2 and upto 14.6 each morning. I am T2 taking meds and work hard to eat a good diet I am not particulary overweight either.
I have high blood pressure (hirreditory they say) and been on meds for many years this is normally well controlled. I also have NAFLD which is monitored and stable.(I dont drink/smoke).
I have currenly been signed off work and diagnosed with work related moderate depression and high anxiety first time off in 22 years a the same company. Can the depression and anxiety be affecting my sugar levels.
Glad of any feedback

Anxiety & depression can affect our BG levels Joan...but it could be any number of things...what T2 meds are you on...possibly a reduction in carbs...or reconsidering your diet...if you can give us a little more information about what you're trying already i.e. diet & activity (if you are able to exercise)... that will make it easier for members here to offer the right support & assistance.

Hi Buddsie
I take fir T2
Metformin 500mg x 4 per day 2 in the morning and 2 at night
Sitiglaptin 100mg 1 per day
Gliclazide 40mg 1 per day

Simvastatin x 20mg night - cholestrol

Blood pressure
Ramipril 2.5mg
Amlodipine 5mg
Thanks

Hi Joan.
Do have hypo's (low BG, 4 and lower).
I suggest keeping a food diary, along with a record of your BG levels. Before and 1 - 2 hours after. After a couple of weeks you should start seeing a pattern. I gather the weather can affect some people. So, with it being warm at the moment, some may be slightly lower than 3 months ago. Being on gliclazide you'll have to watch for going low as well as high.

Hi Ralph
No hypo's as T2, in 4 years I have never been lower than about 9.0. Get very disapproving from the nurse / doc's got a blood test tomorrow.
I think it is a food thing too many carbs although I do try and manage them. Have just bought the Carb and Cals Counter book from DUK

Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time @Joan P and that you have been signed off work for the first time :(

Hope you are able to take some time for yourself, and that this difficult period actually proves to be a turning point for you. Lots of friendly helpful people here who can offer their own experiences and things they have tried diet-wise that have helped them.

You say you are trying to manage your carbs, as has been suggested, it might be helpful to share some ideas about what you are currently eating so that people can suggest swaps or tweaks that might help? No judgement or criticism, as we all have to find our own way of eating, but perhaps some pointers to give you ideas?

As Ralph says, you may have to be a little cautious if you decide to give your diet a significant overhaul because of the meds you are taking, but take it steady, and let your meter be your guide 🙂

Hi Joan and welcome. I used to eat what I thought was a good diet. I knew I was a high risk for diabetes as it was in the family, so I tried to eat well, how wrong I was! Thank goodness for this forum for putting me on the right track. I had rubbish advice from health professionals but I now know it is carbs we have to avoid where possible. There is lots of information on here, especially in the food and carbs section. Let us know if there is anything you want to know, or if you just want a chat.

Anxiety and stress can increase a persons BG more than somewhat when it's that bad but lower levels of stress have similar lower levels of increase.

I know how a T1 can counteract this to some degree but not a T2 unless you take the time to take more exercise and also adjust your diet, since you can't titrate the medication you take on a daily basis - even if you could, I mean it's not the sort of thing that taking more or less of it, has an instant effect.

No hypo's as T2
Type 2s can have hypo's, depending on medication. Gliclazide increases your chance of having a hypo. Although, from what you've said, your normal figures are not near.
