Hi all. Im Liz. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes two weeks ago. Im currently on Metformin. Its making me very tired. Has anyone else had this symptoms?

Hi Liz and welcome.

I have not heard of Metformin making people tired but high blood glucose levels can. Do you know what the result of your HbA1c blood test was, which gave you the diabetes diagnosis. This will usually be a number in excess of 47mmols/mol but can be into 3 figures if things are badly awry with your diabetes. Mine was 114 at diagnosis, so pretty high but others have been even higher. Usually the symptoms of diabetes don't develop until levels are quite high.

Can you tell us a bit about how you came to be diagnosed? Was it just through a routine blood test/MOT type thing or did you have symptoms and if so, what were they. Have you felt under the weather for a while or did things come on suddenly.
The more info you can give us the better we can understand your situation and advise you.

Sorry to hear you have been feeling so tired

Have you had your vitamin B12 checked? That can make you feel pretty tired. And while low Vit B12 can be associated with long term Metformin use, I wouldn’t expect that to have happened so soon.

Hi Liz, has this resolved for you at all? I'm exactly the same and feel worse since starting the medication than before and I'm sure my sugars would have been higher then.
