Oh that sounds amazing Thankyou so much! I will have a look in to that! Im assuming they are suitable for both type 1 & 2? I don’t want to subscribe to one just yet if it’s only for 1 type until I know which I am. Good luck on reaching your targets also!
I recommend nutracheck too but it isn’t diabetes specific, it’s just helpful for counting calories and carbs. An annual subscription to the app is way cheaper than mentioned above at £23.99 for 12 months. Myfitnesspal is free but the benefit of nutracheck is that it’s uk based. Some also like carbs and cals which has pictures so it’s more useful for eating out. Nutracheck has a 7 day free trial you can try first. https://www.nutracheck.co.uk/Prices

Thankyou I think I will definitely try it out.

mine is 9 i wish he is your age …
Ah no I’m so sorry to hear that.
Hi there @Kelz7683. As you are on insulin, I would submit that outlaying monies on T1 respurces is a good investment as you are, at the very least, supplementing your pancreatic function. Knowledge is power.

Edited to add that perhaps you can borrow via local library/university library?
That is very true I suppose it’s worth it so I can understand everything a bit more. I never even thought about the library such a good idea! Thankyou

Don’t worry mike has merge the two threads, your reply to me too.

Your DSN knows far more about all types of diabetes , it is her her speciality which she studied hard for and has a degree in diabetes, where as the Gp practice diabetes (dn) nurse often has only had a little extra training in diabetes and mostly deals with folks who have T2 . Though a few are DSNs.
I can see where your dn is coming from esp if you need to put on some weight butif you don’t, then by all means continue eating the way you normally did .

Did you lose weight unexpectedly prior to this diagnosis ?

Yes it can be a bit of a faff at times but you do get used to it all. If you get the T1 diagnosis, it may well open up the way to better monitoring equipment such as the Freestyle libre, I love mine

The nurse who was scaring me was a nurse in the hospital on the ward who was looking after me for a different problem I went in with which is how they found out I had it due to so much glucose in my urine. I have just got my first appointment with the diabetic team for 9th july so I have just been jotting down any questions I may have. I already have a blood sugar monitor it’s the 4sure duo one I think it’s called so I can keep track anyway. I wish I did lose weight but unfortunately I ended up with ‘covid gain’ as I’m calling it lol i struggle to do lots of exercise due to other health problem but I will give it my best shot!

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂 I didn't see either thread before!

Don’t worry about not being able to exercise much , quite a few of us in here can’t. Also when we advise exercise we don’t mean going for the burn or working up a sweat , a gentle walk if able is fine .

Ah Thankyou I have 2 King Charles so I like to walk them as much as I can so as long as that’s classed as exercise and nothing to strenuous then I should be fine from your advice. Thankyou once again you have been a great help!!

It's actually suitable for everyone - losing or gaining weight, just healthy eating, medical issues, or if you want to follow low fat, low carb etc. What I did was input the max number of carbs I wanted each day (in my case I chose 90gm, but DUK recommends less than 130gm for type 2), and adjusted my protein. I'm not type 1 but my understanding is the important issue is getting the insulin right for what you intend to eat, so you actually have more freedom that type 2.

That’s good to know I will definitely give it a shot then! Anything is worth it at the minute as I just can’t seem to regulate my blood sugar readings they are all over the place! I didn’t know that about type 2 having less freedom than type 1 either I always assumed type 1 was worse. See what I mean when I say I’m new to all of this lol

Hi everyone, back in July 2020 I was told by my GP my HBa1c was 42 fast forward to last week (may 2021) and I was admitted as an inpatient to hospital for another problem. Upon checking my urine they noticed a lot of glucose so my HBa1c was repeated and I was told it was now 130!! After speaking to a diabetic nurse I am now being treated as type 1 until they can confirm what type I have. As you can imagine this has shaken me up slightly now having to inject 2 different insulin’s 4 times a day and trying to eat breakfast and lunch as I usually never did I only ate dinner. I am looking for any advice on good books or websites with recipes/food alternates that I can read up on to try to bring my blood sugar levels down. Many thanks Kel.
Hello and welcome to the forum.

As you are on a basal bolus system, you do not have to eat breakfast or lunch if you don't want to.

The bolus is only to cover what you eat, so no eat no jab 🙂
I never eat breakfast and have been type 1 for 56 years.

I often miss meals too, if I am not hungry I don’t eat , that’s the beauty of being on a Basal and bolus regime. I believe it’s different if you are on a mixed insulin.

It does take a while for them to discover what ratio you need for insulin as we are all very different in this respect , sometimes we need a different ratio later in the day and even for different meals or food types . That’s where keeping records comes into its own, even how long you need to pre bolus for can be different to the time they recommend. a while back I needed to pre bolus 50 minutes before breakfast and 10 minutes fir dinner , that’s all changed now
