There is absolutely no reason for a T1 to have to go to bed that high and is a clear sign that your basal isn't right.

Incidentally, I used to have to do that on Lantus - go to bed high - it all changed for the better when I changed to 2 x Levemir jabs. (I tried for 6 months to split the Lantus, but no combination of timings and doses provided the real answer)
