Hi guys

Not been in a while, as some of you might know, my husband of 15 years and I split in January, and I've made the move back up to Newcastle to be near my family so I've got support through the divorce and help with the kids.

I've been bad diet/testing wise - not checked bgs in a while, and been eating tonnes of crud, so much that I've put lots of weight back on (size 22 on a good day).

My mam has also been diagnosed type 2 in this time - she's not overweight like me, just unlucky. She's looking to me for inspiration, and I'm feeling like a giant (literally) hypocrite.

Two of my sisters are wanting to start going to Weight Watchers, initially they asked me which I preferred out of that and Slimming World, and I wanted to go to SW, but they've chosen WW, so if I want company I'm going to have to go.

I just wondered if anyone had any recommendations - is it worth avoiding (I don't like the idea that you can eat anything you want as long as it's within your "points", whereas SW is more about which foods are better choices) or have you had positive experiences of either group? Or neither?

Sorry I've not been about in ages. Finding life a huge struggle at the moment, smoking again, eating rubbish, so tired all the time (5 kids on your own is not easy).

Love to all

xx

Lisa I thought of you the other day friday it was and checked out when you had last been on, i rubbed my magic lamp and poof you appear lol x

Sorry to hear about the split with your hubby i must have missed that on here,

I cant help with the SW stuff but do go through the weight loss threads cause a few ladies are on various diets at the minute and u may get some help from that x

Unfortunetly with me if my life aint going that great it usually reflects my diabetes as well, I have my lulls and i binge eat then regret it and get back in the saddle so to speak, but hay listen come on here more often hun if you can and we will support you all the way

Hey up Steff! LTNS!

I just realised I've not been on since October so no-one knows about the divorce, doh - thought I'd been on.

It's been tough, as I've mentionned before, Mick is an alcoholic who has liver failure - he was in hospital last year and told never to drink again, thought we'd worked through it, came home on 30th Dec to find him with a bottle of vodka.

He's been a real...well...less said the better. Let's just say the kids are missing out on a parent because he's not stepped up to phone or visit.

I'm back on antidepressants. Wonderful. TBH though, even with all this, happier than I've been in....oh....17 years? ;-)

Hi Lisa,

Really pleased you decided to come in and post. It's a shame what you ar going through right now and it's only natural to feel the way you do so would encourage you not to beat yourself up too much about this.
I am not into the WW and SW group thing, had a go once and wasn't up my rue! I'm more for changing lifestyle and creating better habits but I know some people here are attending SW and getting good results.
Maybe the best idea for you could be to see your GP and or dietitian and get a tailor made package to suit you. The weight loss group here are great and very supportive but what ever you choose good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Lisa,,

So sorry to hear he has not stepped up very sad when the kids are suffering this way, im pleased you moved back home though to Newcastle near your family times like this we need the support of the ones close to us,just a shame your hubby cant best the demon drink right now. What anti ds are you on?

Thanks folks - I'll be making an appointment with the GP asap anyway as I need to review my pain relief.

I'm on fluoxetine. It does help, just not quite enough. I also have amitriptyline for panic/anxiety attacks and pain relief (amongst a zillion other meds). I am still quite low though. Kids are hard work, understandably their behaviour has been affected, having lots of screaming paddies etc (them, not me, although it's tempting some days!).

xx

Hi Lisa, lovely to hear from you again, but very sorry to hear about all the difficulties you have been facing, I'm hoping for a return soon to health and happiness 🙂

Regarding weight loss groups, I don't have any personal experiences, but I think things seem fairly equally split between SW and WW, although SW does seem to have an edge from reading some of the threads. I find Hazel's success with SW very inspiring, have a read of what she has achieved here:

Hi Lisa, lovely to see you back, just sorry to hear you've had such a tough time!!! I've never done SW or WW myself; found the whole idea of having to think about points as well as carb values a real put off! 😱 I did find the Rosemary Conley diet quite good though - it was kind of a set of menu / receipe options so I could pick & choose & just carb count as normal - it's quite a nice diet as they go, I didn't feel too deprived as it were.

Hope things improve for you soon, & the kids are kind to you. 🙂 xx
