Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Hello I'm Mark

Currently trying keto with intermittent 24hr+ fasts and One Meal A Day. Quite enjoying it, I like fasting. Trying to be healthy and eat plenty greens and protiens. I have my 18yr old daughter advising (she's a bit of an expert on the subject!).

I've lost weight once before using Fast 800 plus The Hackers Diet and the associated Libra App.. Didn't have an exit plan and slowly gained all of the weight back again.

One complication I've added since that effort is a missing gall bladder.

I hope to get to know everyone better and learn.
Nice to be here! 🙂

Welcome @fr0d0 🙂 I can’t give much advice on your diet but I can say eating plenty of greens and other low-carb veg is a wise choice🙂

Your exit plan should be more of a continued management plan. Continue to eat the keto things you like, add a few higher carb things you love. Generally add a few calories and a few carbs until you have a nice balance regarding Blood Glucose, weight, enjoying your food. It isn't complicated except that it's different for everybody. It has to be sustainable for years and years because diabetic control , just like maintaining a healthy weight, is a marathon.

I read "A life without diabetes" by Professor Roy Taylor, and he recommends that once you've finished the 800 calories per day, you should be eating 3/4 of the calories that you used to eat before you found out that you were diabetic, and aim to be able to wear the same trousers that you wore when you were 20 (well not exactly the same pair, but the same size).
It's easy to slip back into your old, bad, habits, but diabetes has focussed my mind, for the moment at least.

... and wouldn't it be lovely if those trousers cost the same as they did for me 51 years ago when I was 20 - but there again even though they were crepe (the very best ones from C&A) would I really want to be wearing flares at 71? Though I was much in favour of my mom doing my washing ...... I still had to do my own ironing but at least I own a steam iron now which she never subscribed to!

Welcome to the forum Mark @fr0d0

Sorry to hear about your gall bladder!

Hope you can find a way to smoothly transition to a longer term way of eating once you have reached your weight loss goals. 🙂

Yes that's a much more accurate description. I never really got my head around it. I think low carb going forward will be sustainable for me. I want to keep up regular fasting too. I'm too lazy to be bothered with weighing myself constantly which is a flaw I know. Even tho I've made it very easy for myself. Good advice thank you.

I forgot to mention.. what spurred my 1st attempt was a health checkup where my blood sugar level (?) was in the low 50's. I had a repeat appointment a month later to verify and I'd gone down to mid 40's after strictly adhering to Fast 800. I kept it up and lost 5 stones. Was much fitter and healthier.

Thanks for the recommendation I'll check that out.

If you eat low carb meals which you know (from testing) that your body can handle OK, then their is hardly any need to weigh yourself, though personally i got into the habit of doing so once per week. But it really doesn't change more than 2lbs fluctuation from month to month.

I want to lose weight so..

That's my goal for now. Well I _need_ to lose weight for my health. Once I reach a healthy weight then I expect I could bump along quite happily if I maintained my current plan.
Question is will I want to.

Ironically I have found a couple of work sweatshirts from when I was 20, I fit in them again. Just found the company overalls to go with them, I need to try them on as well.

I'd need to buy a pair of mens levi 501s 32/R which was the trouser I favoured in my 20s! I doubt i'd fit in them yet but I'm getting there.

Size 12 then @Mrs Mimoo ! - only mine had to be 32S AND 3 inch heels .....
frankly if I can get in to some 34/32 I'll be amazed but I have shed 10.5kg now and there's hope for another 10 if I can do it. Feeling a little run down and exhausted by the tachycardia meds and being 52 with the cares of the world this week. 🙄
