Help can I get better needles on prescription , I’ve been diabetic for over 30 years on insulin, and had no problems with the needles that go onto my disposable pen, called bd microfine, then about 3 years ago they changed to Braun.and I hate them, I just can’t push my insulin into my body it’s just too hard, I’ve been to the dialectic hospital all they did was give my a few bd ones, then I went to my diabetic nurse, she gave me a refillable pen and these needles did ok on them , thought I was sorted then my next prescription was back to disposable pens and once again every injection is so hard, my hand and thump hurts, I found myself pushing against things cos I just struggle so much, can I get my old needles again,

Ask your GP - needles are being changed over to cheaper ones as a cost saving exercise, and the GPs hope that people won't complain, but if you can show the difficulties you are having you should be allowed to get the BD ones back. Good luck 🙂

I agree with Sally, you must go back to your GP and explain that the needles are not suitable for you. Explain that you need to inject several times a day, every day, until a cure is found - which may be a very long time. Unsuitable needles can potentially damage your injection sites which, especially after 30 years, are very precious and any damage to them MUST be minimised if you are to avoid problems down the line which will cost far more to deal with than the few pounds a year they might be saving on their cheap needles. Don't take no for an answer. You could also ask for refillable pens to be permanently placed on your prescription, plus the necessary cartridges - they are better constructed (because they have to last much longer) and are much friendlier to the environment 🙂

Don't take no for an answer! Good luck, please let us know how things go 🙂
