sorry Lisa not to reply sooner - thankfully everyone else has anyway! - had to do lunch time shop cover at work - hope you are feeling better soon

it looked like our posts crossed but anyway others may need this info

my rules say two 17mml/l readings over 4 hours - push extra dose (calculation in document) if still 17+ after 4 hours repeat extra dose and if not settled in 12hrs talk with diabetes team ... if you think things are getting worse seek medical assistance and inform them you may have DKA

I had DKA in september, it feels like very tired you may stumble a bit and just think you are tired, but fight through it. you will eventually vomit and feel bloody awful but still not realise you are in DKA, finally you will not have enough energy to get from one chair to the next and will be very close to the end ( I was 5 mins when I got to local hospital)... they would rather you attend than wait until its too late... do not feel ashamed or worried about appearing and finding that you have not got a DKA they would rather that than have to inform anyone of the other outcome.

please please see a doctor now - just like a pain in the chest that turns out to be indigestion, its better to end up laughing about what a fool you been than looking up from the hospital bed with them all terrified of what may have happened.

This morning I took 50 abasglar long acting and 20humalog now before I eat (if I can cos feel so sick now) I've taken ten humalog
If corrections with the humalog aren't having any effect then it's more than likely the insulin has become compromised in some way and isn't working correctly. Did the new pen come from the same batch as the previous one? If so, they might all be affected (this can happen sometimes even before you get it, if it hasn't been stored correctly before reaching you - rare, but can happen). I'd be inclined to get some brand new insulin on an energency prescription.

If it helps, a correction dose for being unwell is "add all the units of insulin you take in a normal day and divide by 6"

It's a pretty hefty correction dose but if your sugars are very high and not coming down its necessary sometimes. Repeat after 4-5 hours if you're still high.

If you look on the link Ljc posted, at the bottom, there is a link called "feeling unwell flowchart." This flow chart explains it better.

You really do need to somehow get Ketostix. NHS 111 will tell you where the nearest open chemist is. This is a matter of urgency.

Hope your ok Lisa, let us know how you get on, good luck hun xx

Wise decision. I hope they don't take long to get you sorted out.

Lisa hope alls gonna be ok x keep us updated

I was going to quote the sick day dosage to Lisa, but thought she should read the rest of the documentation someone else had sent a link to the scottish nhs version. it is as you have suggested "daily dose/6" anyway glas she has gone to be checked out, hope she is well and look forward to chatting as soon as.

I wonder if we should have these documents we have in common somwhere on the site so that newbees can find them easily, i think we should all have been issued with them, but at the start and for your first few sickdays and odd days it would be good to have a quick access while chatting with the forum.

Just a thought

There are links to a lot of the most useful things in the 'Links' section 🙂

i am new here too and just noticed that Lisa was given hyperlink to a web page somewhere and not a link to this forum thats all, its just a thought

I agree. I think the second you're diagnosed you should be given sick day rules and have them explained in detail instead of being left to panic!

I was given everything I could have hoped for, they just gave me the wrong stuff, fortunately I am bright enough to have worked out it was wrong and able to pop into the clinic (no appointment) and they sorted it out. We are so luck to be in AYRSHIRE and ARRAN NHS.

I am confused by the 101 and 102 what exactly are those numbers?

having not heard from LISA in the last 6 hours, I am hoping we can assume she is in hospital being sorted and will be back with us mid-week bright eyed and bushy tailed.. lets hope so.

If you're referring to my signature, 101 and 102 are my hba1c results. It may also be given in a percentage but nowadays its often given in a number. The bottom of this page may explain it: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Managing-your-diabetes/Testing/#HbA1c
